Job Description

About Us

Johnson Controls, a global leader in thermal management, mission-critical building systems, energy efficiency, and decarbonization, helps customers use energy more productively, reduce carbon emissions, and operate with the precision and resilience required in rapidly expanding industries such as data centers, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, advanced manufacturing, and higher education.

For more than 140 years, Johnson Controls has delivered performance where it really matters. Backed by advanced technology, lifecycle services and an industry-leading field organization, we elevate customer performance, turn goals into real-world results and help move society forward.

What you will do

Johnson Controls is seeking an EH&S Coordinator to serve as the operating backbone of the Office of the Vice President, Environmental Health & Safety, and a coordinator of enterprise EH&S programs for the broader organization.

Reporting directly to the Vice President, EH&S, the single enterprise leader accountable for the safety of Johnson Controls colleagues across every plant, branch, job site, and region, this role is responsible for supporting the daily operation and effectiveness of the global EH&S function. The EH&S Coordinator manages the Vice President's calendar, travel, meeting cadence, and executive materials while coordinating the data, reporting, training, audit, compliance, and communication processes the function relies on.

The role delivers results by making the function's operating rhythm reliable. Success means ensuring the Vice President's time is focused on plants, the field, and the decisions that matter most; safety data is complete, accurate, and submitted on time; corrective actions and compliance deadlines are tracked to closure; and EH&S communications effectively reach the line organization.

This position supports Johnson Controls' journey toward becoming a high-reliability, gold-standard safety organization, with line ownership of safety and an operating system that identifies risk early.

This position is ideal for an individual who is eager to grow their EH&S career by learning the Johnson Controls business, building relationships across the enterprise, and gaining exposure to a diverse range of operations and stakeholders. Success in this role can create opportunities for continued career progression and expanded responsibilities throughout the organization.

How you will do it

  • Manage the Vice President, EH&S's calendar, priorities, inbox triage, and correspondence while serving as the first point of contact for the office.
  • Prepare the Vice President for meetings by coordinating agendas, pre-read materials, meeting logistics, and follow-up actions.
  • Plan and coordinate complex domestic and international travel, including plant, branch, and job-site visits with site leaders and local EH&S teams.
  • Coordinate EH&S Leadership Team meetings, offsites, operating reviews, Safety Week activities, recognition programs, and other enterprise safety events.
  • Build and maintain the EH&S operating calendar, including Leadership Team meetings, monthly performance reviews, Executive Committee updates, CHRO reporting, and Board reporting inputs.
  • Assemble, format, quality-check, and distribute executive presentations, reports, and supporting materials.
  • Track actions and commitments arising from executive meetings and ensure timely closure through appropriate follow-up and escalation.
  • Coordinate incident, injury, and near-miss reporting within the enterprise EH&S management system and monitor reporting completeness and timeliness.
  • Reconcile safety data with regional EH&S leaders and ensure reported information is complete, accurate, and traceable to source records.
  • Support OSHA and equivalent international recordkeeping requirements, including OSHA 300, 300A, and 301 logs.
  • Coordinate development and delivery of the monthly safety performance pack, including leading and lagging indicators such as total recordable incident rate, lost-time metrics, serious injury and fatality (SIF) measures, and SIF precursor indicators.
  • Maintain the enterprise EH&S compliance calendar, including regulatory submissions, inspections, permit renewals, and audit schedules.
  • Track audit findings, incident corrective actions, and investigation actions to closure, escalating overdue items to responsible leaders.
  • Coordinate enterprise EH&S training schedules, records, and completion tracking across sites.
  • Support the rollout of enterprise EH&S onboarding, training programs, and competency requirements for new EH&S colleagues.
  • Draft and distribute safety alerts, lessons-learned bulletins, and other EH&S communications.
  • Maintain the EH&S SharePoint site, document control processes, distribution lists, policies, standards, and procedures to ensure the organization is working from the most current documentation.
  • Track departmental budgets and expenditures, process purchase requisitions, invoices, and expense reports, and coordinate with vendors and service providers.
  • Support contractor safety administration, including maintenance of prequalification records in third-party platforms such as ISNetworld and Avetta.
  • Standardize recurring EH&S processes through templates, trackers, and operating procedures that improve consistency and visibility.
  • Leverage Microsoft 365 and AI-enabled tools to reduce manual reporting and administrative effort, enabling EH&S leaders to spend more time in the field.
  • Focus on what matters by protecting the Vice President's time for Gemba, serious injury and fatality prevention activities, and the decisions only the function head can make.
  • Win as one team by connecting the Office of the Vice President with regional and plant EH&S leaders, the EH&S Leadership Team, HR, Legal, Supply Chain, and executive offices across the Executive Committee.
  • Own every commitment that leaves the office by ensuring deadlines are met, actions are tracked to closure, data is reconciled before reporting, and nothing is lost between meetings.
  • Improve every day by standardizing recurring work, removing manual steps from reporting and tracking processes, making data gaps and overdue actions visible, and sharing best practices across regions.
  • Handle incident investigations, legal matters, regulatory correspondence, and sensitive personnel information with discretion, sound judgment, and complete confidentiality.
  • Build strong working relationships across EH&S, executive administration, and business functions to drive results through collaboration and influence rather than formal authority.

What we look for

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Business, a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Five (5) or more years of experience in EH&S coordination, EH&S administration, or executive support, including at least two (2) years supporting a senior leader (Vice President level or above) or an EH&S function.
  • Working knowledge of EH&S programs, incident management, and injury recordkeeping in a manufacturing, construction, or field-service environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a senior executive's calendar, travel, priorities, and materials with discretion and minimal direction.
  • Strong data management and analytical skills, including advanced Microsoft Excel capabilities and experience reconciling data from multiple sources.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated ability to develop executive-ready reports, presentations, and communications.
  • Experience coordinating multiple priorities and stakeholders within a fast-paced, matrixed environment.
  • Strong organizational, project coordination, and follow-through skills with a high attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with integrity, sound judgment, and discretion.
