Blackbird Interactive is a creative-fueled, future-driven, independent game studio where the best talent in the industry can find long-term careers to help grow their abilities while working on a wide range of projects, which encompass world-class IPs as well as our own creations across multiple genres.

Blackbird Interactive is seeking a passionate Environment and Prop Artist to join our team and continue developing a AAA Sci-fi action title. In this position, you’ll be working under the supervision of an Art Director and Art Lead to develop detailed, hard-surface environmental kits, props and materials. You’ll collaborate closely with art leadership as well as work cross-discipline to ensure kits fit existing metrics using established practices.

We support remote and hybrid working arrangements across Canada (Vancouver, BC). At BBI, you’ll find a flexible, forward-thinking environment where creative voices are valued and nurtured.

Responsibilities

  • Work under the direction of Art Leadership to maintain strict adherence to established metrics and asset creation practices with an eye towards speed and efficiency. Create high-quality, 3D hard-surface assets: modular kits, props, set dressing in a grounded, realistic style. Handle the complete workflow from asset creation to implementation: modeling, UVs, baking, texturing, material creation, exporting and in-engine implementation. Employ creative re-use of existing assets, textures and materials to create new assets from expansive libraries. Establish and maintain a cohesive environment style, with an eye towards detail and an understanding of technical requirements and limitations.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience as hard-surface environment, dungeon or prop artist. Strong portfolio showcasing work on previous titles or projects in-engine. Solid grasp of PBR workflows and material definition using Substance Painter and Photoshop. Strong proficiency in hard-surface modeling software such as Maya, Blender, Plasticity or equivalent, modern authoring tools. Strong technical execution and problem solving skills. Desire to be highly collaborative and eager to take constructive feedback.

  • Pluses

  • Passion for grounded, immersive science fiction. Familiarity with 3ds Max and Substance Designer. Experience working within proprietary engines.

  • Salary: $80,000 - $90,000 a year
