English Language and Literature Teacher Job Type: Full Time Qualification: BA/BSc/HND Experience: 3 years Location: Lagos Job Field: Education / Teaching / Training We are seeking a passionate, experienced, and committed English Language & Literature Teacher to join our College team. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality English Language and Literature instruction, supporting students’ academic development, and preparing them to excel in both internal and external examinations.
Key Responsibilities

Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and effective English Language and Literature lessons in line with the school’s curriculum.

Teach and support students across relevant secondary school levels.

Prepare students adequately for WAEC, NECO, IGCSE, and other relevant external examinations.

Develop students’ skills in reading, writing, grammar, comprehension, vocabulary, speaking, and literary analysis.

Introduce students to a wide range of literary texts and guide them in understanding themes, characters, literary devices, and critical interpretation.

Develop lesson plans, teaching resources, assignments, assessments, and other instructional materials.

Assess students’ academic performance regularly and provide constructive feedback to support improvement.

Identify students who require additional academic support and implement appropriate interventions.

Maintain accurate records of students’ performance, attendance, assessments, and academic progress.

Create a positive, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment that encourages students to participate actively in learning.

Maintain effective classroom management and uphold the school’s academic and behavioural standards.

Collaborate with colleagues and the relevant Head of Department to improve teaching and learning outcomes.

Participate in departmental meetings, school events, extracurricular activities, and other assigned responsibilities.

Keep up to date with developments in English Language and Literature teaching and examination requirements.

Requirements & Qualifications

A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in English, Literature-in-English, Education, or a related discipline.

A minimum of 3 years’ relevant teaching experience, preferably within a reputable secondary school or college.

Demonstrable experience preparing students for WAEC, NECO and/or IGCSE examinations.

Strong knowledge of the English Language and Literature curriculum.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
-
Strong classroom management and lesson delivery skills.
-
Ability to engage students of different abilities and learning needs.
-
Strong organisational, interpersonal, and assessment skills.
-
A recognised teaching qualification or certification will be an added advantage.
