About this role

Epiroc

The Engineering Test Supervisor leads the Engineering Test function supporting our Garland R&D teams. You will plan, schedule, and execute test programs and new product development prototype drill rig builds that deliver accurate, repeatable, and timely data to Engineering.

Work Type: Onsite

Shift Timings: Monday-Friday, 6:30 AM-3:30 PM

Responsibilities

  • Develop test plans, procedures, and setups that produce meaningful data for evaluating drill rig and system performance, and document standard procedures for repeatable, efficient testing
  • Work directly with R&D engineering to develop custom test plans and procedures that verify and validate new designs, and to investigate and resolve customer field issues
  • Identify test requirements early in the project life cycle, set test timelines, and complete testing by committed dates
  • Prioritize and assign test requests, coordinate with Production to schedule test rigs, and adjust test sequencing when build and delivery schedules change so customer delivery dates are protected
  • Interface with new product development teams on prototype builds, testing, and field support according to the project plan
  • Lead safety for the test function, including hazard identification, risk assessment, PPE compliance, and creating and maintaining safety SOPs for test operations
  • Own test equipment calibration, maintenance, and upkeep, manage the test budget and shop supply purchasing, and provide budgetary input on future facility and tooling needs
  • Supervise, hire, train, and develop test technicians, including daily work assignment, weekly timesheet approval, annual performance and development discussions, and employee recognition
  • Maintain Integrated Management System (IMS) documentation for Engineering Test and support internal and external audits
  • Communicate test plans, schedules, and results clearly to Engineering, Production, and project teams, and report risks to committed dates early

Knowledge/Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and hands on experience
  • Minimum of five years of experience working on or with heavy equipment, which may come from R&D, engineering test, manufacturing engineering, production, service, or a similar environment
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems on mobile heavy equipment, ideally surface drilling, mining, or construction equipment
  • Ability to develop test plans and procedures, and to analyze, interpret, and report technical data
  • Familiarity with instrumentation and data acquisition, including sensor selection, strain gaging, pressure transducers, flow meters, load cells, accelerometers, etc. and calibration practices
  • Strong planning and scheduling skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities in a changing environment
  • Demonstrated potential to lead, including coordinating the work of others, mentoring, and holding a team to schedule and quality expectations
  • Comfortable managing a budget, including equipment procurement and supply purchasing
  • Willingness to support field testing at customer sites nationally and internationally
  • Experience with PLM, ERP systems and engineering change processes
  • Comfortable working with global engineering teams across time zones
  • Solid computer skills, including Microsoft Office and data analysis tools
  • Ability to work safely in shop, test yard, and customer field environments

Skills and Abilities:

  • Puts safety first and leads by example, holding the team accountable without being asked

  • Takes ownership and follows through on commitments, especially on dates that other teams depend on

  • Stays calm and adapts quickly when schedules shift, and finds a path forward rather than waiting for direction

  • Communicates clearly and proactively, raising issues and risks early instead of late

  • Collaborates well across Engineering, Production, project teams, and global sites

  • Develops people, gives direct and constructive feedback, and recognizes good work

  • Approaches problems with structure and curiosity, and digs for root cause rather than settling for a symptom

  • Detail oriented in data, documentation, and procedures, with high standards for accuracy

  • Hands on and willing to be in the shop and the field, not just behind a desk
