About this role
About the Role This role is for an Engineering Technician - Electronics on the Silvus Technologies team (a Motorola Solutions subsidiary). The technician will perform hands-on electronics lab work, execute extensive product qualification and environmental stress tests, assist design engineers with component-level debugging, and help transition products to manufacturing (NPI). The position is 100% onsite in West Los Angeles, CA. What You'll Do
- Execute detailed functional, parametric, and performance tests on RF, digital, and mechanical designs under the direction of hardware development engineers.
- Setup, configure, and monitor units under test through environmental stress (thermal cycle, humidity, shock, vibration) to comply with internal quality plans.
- Perform precision SMT soldering and rework down to fine-pitch and 0201 sizes; construct custom test fixtures; fabricate cable/wire harnesses; mechanical prototype assemblies.
- Assist Engineers with isolating component-level, board-level, and system-level defects; read electrical schematics; use standard lab diagnostics to identify root causes.
- Set up, calibrate, verify, and operate standard RF and electronic lab instruments (VNAs, Spectrum Analyzers, oscilloscopes, vector signal generators, power meters, programmable power supplies).
- Interface with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Production teams to assist with New Product Introduction (NPI); build, validate, and document reference test configurations and assembly workflows for transfer to contract manufacturers.
- Systematically log, analyze, and format raw test data; maintain meticulous engineering notebooks; create structured failure analysis reports; draft SOPs for new test setups.
- Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and ESD-compliant laboratory environment; track lab tools; coordinate routine calibration intervals; manage electronic component inventories.
- Perform other related duties as assigned. What We're Looking For
- High School Diploma or GED with 5 years direct electronics or RF hardware support experience; OR Associate degree in Electronics Engineering Technology (ASET) with 3 years' experience in R&D, product validation, or advanced manufacturing; OR equivalent military technical training with hands-on electronics or RF hardware experience.
- Ability to read, interpret, and navigate complex electrical schematics, PCB layout prints, assembly drawings, mechanical drawings, and multi-tier BOMs.
- Exceptional hands-on skills with mechanical assemblies and soldering, including reliably replacing fine-pitch ICs, QFNs, and passive components under a laboratory microscope.
- Knowledge of hand assembly tools and screw types; understanding of component sizes/packages and wire gauges.
- Strong familiarity with DMMs, oscilloscopes, variable power supplies, and electronic loads.
- IPC-A-610 and/or J-STD-001 certification or equivalent experience.
- Familiarity with basic scripting environments (e.g., Python, LabVIEW) to control instrumentation via GPIB, USB, or Ethernet is highly desirable.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident) due to clients under U.S. federal contracts.
- All employment is contingent upon successful clearance of a background check and drug test. Nice to Have
- Basic knowledge of digital electronics.
- Additional familiarity with scripting for instrument control and data analysis.
