About this role
Instacart is seeking an Engineering Manager for the Service Platform, located in Canada (Remote). You will lead the team responsible for Instacart’s core deployment and release engineering systems, including canary infrastructure and end-to-end deployment tooling. This platform underpins the reliability of every service, and your work will shape how developers safely, confidently, and efficiently ship code. You will partner with product, infrastructure, and service teams to define and evolve a platform that enables fast iteration without compromising reliability.
Responsibilities
- Lead a product-focused engineering team in a fast-paced environment, balancing delivery speed with reliability.
- Guide both product initiatives and critical reliability systems such as Temporal, Canary, and Deployments.
- Articulate priorities clearly and balance competing needs across the organization.
- Manage cross-functional stakeholder relationships, prioritizing customer needs first.
- Navigate ambiguous and technical problem spaces, gaining end-to-end understanding of deployment infrastructure.
- Lead by example with a strong incident triage mindset and hands-on engagement in domain areas that may be new or unfamiliar.
About You / Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 2+ years of experience leading and managing people, with emphasis on designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems.
- 7+ years of experience in software development across one or more programming languages.
- Proven track record of launching and shipping high-impact products; bonus points for internal, developer-facing products.
- Strong proficiency in maintaining high standards for production services.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to contextualize problems for various audiences.
- Skill in navigating ambiguity and involving the right stakeholders to address issues efficiently.
- Experience building and shipping products to users.
- Expertise in building platforms and high-scale infrastructure.
