About the Role Engineering Manager to lead a software development team within New Balance's eCommerce platform. You will drive strategic initiatives, coach engineers, and deliver user-centric, scalable solutions that align with the company’s vision. This role combines technical leadership with cross-functional collaboration to push New Balance as an innovator in sport and commerce. What You'll Do
- Lead and inspire an engineering team of +/- 10 engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Drive strategic initiatives and ensure alignment between engineering efforts and company goals.
- Collaborate with Product Managers, Quality Engineers, and cross-functional teams to deliver user-centric, high-quality, scalable solutions aligned with New Balance's vision.
- Optimize development processes, promote best practices, and identify opportunities for process improvements.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies (standups, retrospectives, planning) to drive team efficiency.
- Collaborate with Operations, SRE, and Platform teams to diagnose and resolve production issues swiftly, maintaining system scalability and performance.
- Support career development with coaching and growth opportunities; encourage learning.
- Manage development and growth of engineers by setting clear, achievable goals.
- Ensure projects meet high standards of quality, reliability, and security, and are delivered on schedule.
- Provide timely, actionable feedback using examples and metrics.
- Manage resources and workload distribution effectively.
- Contribute to recruitment by identifying and hiring candidates who fit the team’s culture and needs.
- Lead strategic decisions on technology choices and infrastructure to ensure scalable, performant, and secure systems.
- Promote a culture of collaboration and engagement with open communication and teamwork. What We're Looking For
- 10+ years of technical experience in Operations, Software Engineering, or Software Development
- 4+ years of management experience leading technical professionals
- 4+ years of experience in eCommerce preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in information systems, Computer Science, or related field
- In-depth knowledge of professional software engineering best practices including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, performance/quality testing, and operations
- In-depth knowledge of security best practices
- High-energy, detail-oriented and proactive with the ability to function under pressure
- High degree of initiative and self-motivation with a willingness and ability to learn and take on challenging opportunities
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with strong relationship, collaborative and organization skills
- Extensive experience with web and integration technologies such as HTTP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Node.js, .Net, C#, Java, PHP, REST, SOA, microservices, message queues, and databases
- Experience designing and implementing complex enterprise applications in B2C eCommerce, Order Management Systems, Product Information Systems, ERP, CRM or similar
- Experience with Microsoft Azure and Salesforce Commerce Cloud
- Ability to balance customer requirements with technical restraints
- Experience with the Atlassian suite of products (Confluence, Jira, Service Desk, Bitbucket)
- Knowledge of DevOps practices and tools Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $122,000 to $182,500 annually, based on experience and location
