Job title: Engineering Manager for IAM
Canonical is hiring an Engineering Manager for IAM to lead the development of secure, scalable identity and access management services using Go and Python. You will guide the IAM team across Canonical products (e.g., Ubuntu One SSO, Juju, LXD, MAAS) and collaborate with upstream OSS projects and internal teams to deliver high-quality software that can be deployed on bare metal, public cloud and Kubernetes.
What You'll Do
- Define the technical vision for IAM products and manage the team backlog
- Recruit, hire and coach a high-performing software engineering team
- Review code and provide constructive feedback; design software and write tests
- Write documentation and troubleshoot issues; ensure quality and security
- Work with upstream open source communities and Canonical teams
- Build distributed Go and Python services and secure IAM solutions used across Canonical products
- Leverage Canonical's Kubernetes-based Observability stack and data stores
- Participate in hackfests, webinars and conferences
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience hiring and leading a high-performance software engineering team
- Experience with Go and Python software development
- Ability to design and implement complex distributed systems
- Experience working with container technology and Kubernetes
- Strong understanding of software/infrastructure security and performance
- Experience with IAM or strong interest in IAM (desirable but not required)
- Experience collaborating with upstream open source projects
- Excellent code review, debugging and documentation skills
Nice to Have
- Distributed systems operations experience
- Familiarity with Canonical’s open source ecosystem and related tools
