Job title: Engineering Manager (First-Level)
About the Role Canonical is seeking an Engineering Manager for first-level software teams. This remote, worldwide role focuses on leading engineers while remaining an outstanding coder who reviews patches and design specs. You will shape the team's direction, contribute code to set standards, and help drive strategy, delivery, and cross-team collaboration across Canonical's open-source platforms.
What You'll Do
- Provide line management and career guidance for engineers.
- Develop engineering talent and help engineers grow their skills and impact.
- Represent your team and product from a technical perspective; drive collaboration with other teams and with customers.
- Contribute code to set the standard for coding while focusing on shaping the team's roadmap, technical strategy, code, documentation, and community engagement for the product.
- Work with a typical first-level software engineering team (Engineering Manager + Senior Engineer) dedicated to a single product, aligning on strategy and delivery, and participating in management training to speak a common language for team behaviours, habits, routines, norms, and standards.

- Proven coding ability and willingness to contribute code to set standards.

- Willingness to participate in Canonical's management training to align with company practices.
