About the Role Join Atlassian's AI & ML Platform Team as a hands-on engineering leader responsible for building and running the platform infrastructure that underpins Atlassian's AI, ML, and search capabilities. You will recruit, coach, and grow a distributed team, shape platform strategy, and drive engineering practices and continuous improvement in a fast-evolving AI domain. What You'll Do
- Influence the direction of the AI/ML platform and plan the steps to get there, collaborating with leadership, product managers, stakeholders and architects.
- Build, empower, and grow a high-performing, diverse engineering team across multiple geographies (Australia, India, Singapore & the US).
- Contribute as a hands-on engineering leader to engineering and operational practices, fostering a continuous improvement mindset.
- Drive high technical standards, innovation, quality, and operational excellence to ensure reliable production delivery.
- Provide thought leadership on how to use the AI platform across Atlassian and help shape company-wide AI strategy.
- Translate requirements into actionable roadmaps and plans, partnering with product, search, and AI stakeholders. What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of software development management experience, leading teams of 5+ engineers, with a track record of delivering large-scale backend platforms.
- Demonstrated experience partnering with product managers and cross-functional stakeholders to shape platform direction.
- Knowledge of Agile software development methodologies (e.g., XP, Scrum) and experience working with distributed development teams across geographies.
- Demonstrated mentoring and growth of high-performing engineering teams; ability to contribute to the technical strategy of the team.
- Hands-on engineering background and ability to contribute to architectural and operational decisions.
- Nice to have: Experience in AI & ML or data; experience defining a strategic roadmap for products and platforms; continuous delivery with a strong bias for action. Nice to Have
