About the Role Wise is seeking an Engineering Lead to join the embedded finance team. The role is hands-on and focused on mentoring engineers, setting technical direction, and delivering reliable, scalable services for Wise's partners. You will work closely with a Product Manager and cross-functional teams to own the team's direction and drive the embedded finance platform. What You'll Do
- Design, develop, and maintain the team’s services (hands-on)
- Mentor and support engineers in their growth and development
- Guide technical decisions to ensure a high-quality, reliable, and scalable product
- Work with a Product Manager to own and drive the team’s direction and product plans
- Collaborate with teams across Wise to deliver real impact and expand platform functionality for partners
- Take ownership of the team’s services and product, pushing best practices and high-quality outcomes What We're Looking For
- Proven experience leading and mentoring high-performing engineering teams
- Strong hands-on experience with Java (or similar stacks)
- Deep understanding of microservices and event-driven architectures
- Product mindset — focus on customer impact, not just technical implementation
- Strong experience designing and optimizing relational databases
- Following and advocating best coding practices, continuous delivery and code reviews
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly across teams and stakeholders Compensation & Benefits
- Starting salary: £105,000-£135,000 + RSUs
