About the Role Responsible for performing a wide variety of planning, analysis, and project-oriented engineering activities related to ensuring available capacity and risk mitigation within the electrical distribution system in accordance with Entergy's grid modernization strategy. What You'll Do
- Monitor and maintain records of peak substation and circuit loads and perform annual load flow analysis with load forecasts for substation transformers, feeder circuits, and local loads.
- Perform annual overload, voltage, power factor and contingency studies.
- Develop and propose blanket and specific level substation and distribution normal load driven and N-1 contingency projects.
- Prepare and maintain the distribution five-year plan and the Joint Transmission and Distribution component of the Transmission plan.
- Support Transmission Planning and Project Development on high-voltage project optimization.
- Serve as the Distribution Planning liaison to transmission project management, project design (Transmission and Distribution), and Asset Management Program Design.
- Provide technical support to distribution design engineers, operations, and managed accounts.
- Perform circuit coordination studies as required in concert with the distribution automation team.
- Maintain the SynerGi distribution system analysis model and run load flow analysis to proactively identify potential system issues and generate project proposals to address these modeled issues.
- Meet with large customers (internal and external) to determine electric needs, requirements, and ability to serve.
- Develop and maintain the Emergency/Contingency Switching Plans for the assigned area of responsibility.
- Work directly with customers proposing larger Distributed Generation additions to the system as the Distribution technical adviser.
- Participate in routine, non-routine, and emergency storm and outage event restoration duties.
- Cross-functional optimization with grid/system design, operations and maintenance, planning, asset management, reliability, computer applications, safety, and root cause failure analysis.
- This position is designated as a Safety Sensitive position and is subject to mandatory pre-employment and random drug testing. What We're Looking For
- Minimum education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Electrical preferred; other disciplines accepted with PE may be considered). Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering; other engineering disciplines may be considered if PE is obtained.
- Experience: Engineer I 0-1 year; Engineer II 2+ years; Engineer III 4+ years; Engineer Sr 6+ years in an engineering discipline; level determined by candidate qualifications.
- Knowledge and skills: Technical mastery of engineering principles; in-depth knowledge of procedures, programs, and standards; strong math, writing and oral communication; excellent project management; familiarity with NEC/National Electrical Code; ability to manage multiple activities and priorities; safety awareness; and PC/software proficiency.
- Licenses: Must have valid driver's license and good driving record; Professional Engineer (PE) license may be considered or preferred.
- Other: ability to respond to significant outage restoration events and travel up to 25%. Nice to Have
- PE license or ability to obtain; cross-functional grid/system design experience a plus.
