About the Role Canonical is hiring an Engineer Director, Devices Software Engineering to lead the strategy and implementation of the next-generation Ubuntu hardware enablement quality. This role partners with the Ubuntu Enablement and Certification teams to deliver the world's best long-term OS stability across PC, server and IoT hardware.
What You'll Do
- Lead the strategy and team responsible for quality coordination and integration testing of Ubuntu software stacks with hardware across PC, server and IoT devices.
- Establish quality processes from the ground up and drive testing and benchmarking to improve clarity around quality and performance.
- Collaborate across teams to drive quality improvements through the entire development cycle; set and defend high expectations of work ethic, consistency, focus and learning.
- Review patches and software design specs; contribute code to set the standard while shaping direction and delivery, leading by example.
- Understand the hardware product lifecycle (board and device) and manage interfaces with Ubuntu Enablement/Certification; stay excited about the next generation of RISC-V hardware.
What We're Looking For
- Outstanding quality engineering leader with the ability to establish and scale quality processes across complex software-hardware integrations.
- Deep understanding of PC and ARM IoT hardware; interest and curiosity about RISC-V.
- Strong experience in testing, benchmarking, and metrics-driven quality improvements.
- Proven ability to lead directors/managers; strong system software engineering background and ability to influence across teams; comfortable patch review and code contribution.
- Experience in open source environments, Linux/Ubuntu ecosystems, and hardware enablement/certification domains.
Nice to Have
- Prior experience as an Engineering Director or managing managers; active open-source contributions; familiarity with Ubuntu Enablement and Certification domains.
