About the Role Texas Wesleyan University's Engage Studio is seeking an Engage Studio Support Specialist to help students develop academic communication skills. The role focuses on academic writing support, public speaking coaching, and turning papers into engaging presentations, along with tool training and campus outreach. The position is based on campus and requires regular in-person hours in the Engage Studio, with collaboration with directors and other staff to plan and assess programs.
What You'll Do
- Provide one-on-one and small-group support for academic writing, including essays and research papers, with guidance on structure, revision, and cohesion; assist students in translating writing into compelling presentations.
- Conduct public speaking coaching sessions, offer feedback on delivery, body language, and speech content, and organize workshops to boost confidence.
- Help students transform papers into visually appealing presentations, teaching slide design, multimedia integration, and basic recording/editing of voiceovers.
- Introduce and train students on presentation tools and technologies, including PowerPoint, Google Slides, Prezi, and others; provide hands-on practice with animations and interactive features.
- Collaborate with directors to plan, implement, and assess engagement strategies; document sessions, input data in Excel, and generate reports; assist in marketing and outreach to promote the studio on campus.
- Prepare and maintain session plans, voiceover materials, and assessment documents; participate in training and professional development; facilitate tutorials and walk-in support sessions.
- Maintain punctual attendance, schedule consistent hours in the Engage Studio, and communicate with directors on a weekly basis; contribute to workshops, events, and campus outreach.

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with students and staff.
- Experience or aptitude in academic writing support and coaching for public speaking.
- Proficiency with presentation tools and software, including PowerPoint, Google Slides, and Prezi; familiarity with adding multimedia elements.
- Ability to translate written work into effective presentations and to provide constructive feedback on delivery and content.
- Detail-oriented with data-entry skills and the ability to document sessions and prepare reports.
- Reliability and punctuality; ability to work in-person at the Engage Studio; willingness to collaborate with faculty and staff and to participate in professional development.
