About the Role We are seeking an Embedded Software Engineer (m/w/d) for Satellite Avionics to design and implement Rust-based software for flight software in a regulated ECSS environment. You will help shape the architecture, guidelines and tooling for next‑generation avionics, working closely with experienced embedded and avionics engineers. What You'll Do
- Design and shape Rust‑based software architectures for satellite flight software
- Develop safety‑ and security‑relevant components in Rust
- Align modern software engineering practices (Testing, Tooling, CI, Static Analysis) with ECSS standards
- Make multicore concepts productive (partitioning, determinism, scheduling)
- Implement high‑reliability communication paths (MIL‑STD‑1553/MILBUS, CAN, Ethernet, serial)
- Collaborate with experienced Embedded and Avionik engineers and contribute to shaping the role of Rust in satellite avionics What We're Looking For
- Solid embedded background: software development in resource‑constrained/RT contexts
- Rust experience (projects or production) and enthusiasm to use Rust in safety contexts
- Understanding of real‑time, concurrency and deterministic behavior on multicore MPSoCs
- Experience with RTOS (RTEMS, VxWorks) or Embedded Linux
- Familiarity with software quality in regulated environments (ECSS processes, reviews, tests, proofs)
- Very good German and English skills
- High quality mindset and strong teamwork and communication Nice to Have
- Knowledge of LEON (GR712/GR740), Zynq 7000, or first exposure to RISC‑V
- Experience with Safety/Security mechanisms (robust APIs, memory safety, FMEA/FTA thinking)
- Experience with Static Analysis / Fuzzing / Property‑Based Testing (C and/or Rust)
- Knowledge of space protocols and bus systems
- Contributions to Open Source or internal tech guidelines Compensation & Benefits
