About this role
Canonical is hiring an Embedded Linux Field Engineer for Devices/IoT to expand our reach in mission-critical industries including Automotive, Medical Devices, Industrial Systems, Robotics, Telco and Consumer Electronics. This role blends deep Linux expertise with customer-facing delivery, hands-on development, and the ability to translate ideas into reliable embedded solutions.
What You'll Do
- Provide embedded Linux engineering expertise for devices and IoT across target sectors, helping customers adopt Ubuntu Core and Linux-based platforms
- Work on low-level Linux boot, BIOS, firmware, and embedded software development methodologies, debugging, tuning, and packaging
- Collaborate with customers and Canonical teams to implement secure, reliable, and developer-friendly solutions
- Communicate complex technical topics clearly and deliver thoughtful, well-informed guidance
- Engage with partners and customers across the APAC region and participate in in-person strategy/execution meetings 2-4 times per year as needed
What We're Looking For
- Deep, practical Linux experience and Linux plumber mindset; proficient coders and scripters
- Experience with low-level Linux boot, BIOS, firmware and embedded software development methodologies
- Ability to work across changing customer engagements, be a team player, and prioritize customers' success
- Passion for Linux, security, reliability, developer productivity, and hands-on problem solving
Nice to Have
- Real-time Linux capability and experience
- Experience with Ubuntu Core, embedded Linux certifications or certification processes for embedded offerings
- Experience with distribution packaging and hardware/software integration in embedded environments
