About the Role Canonical is hiring an Embedded Linux Field Engineer for Devices/IoT to extend our reach in mission-critical industries. This role blends deep Linux expertise with customer-facing field engineering to architect, deploy and support embedded Linux solutions across devices and IoT platforms. You will work on Ubuntu and Ubuntu Core technologies, and participate in cross-functional, globally distributed teams.
What You'll Do
- Work on embedded Linux systems for devices and IoT, including low-level boot, BIOS, EFI, Secure Boot and firmware, and OS distribution packaging.
- Code and script to build, customize and validate embedded systems; bring customer ideas to life.
- Engage with customers to provide thoughtful, well-informed answers about Canonical solutions and products; act as a trusted advisor.
- Collaborate with global teams; participate in occasional in-person meetings (2-4 times per year) in interesting locations around the world to align on strategy and execution.
What We're Looking For
- Strong Linux knowledge; proficient with coding and scripting.
- Experience with low-level Linux boot, BIOS, EFI, Secure Boot, firmware, and OS distribution packaging; embedded software development methodologies.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, diverse client engagements environment; team-oriented with a drive for customer success.
- Passionate about Linux and known as an accomplished Linux plumber; capable of explaining complex topics clearly to customers.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Ubuntu Core.
- Real-time Linux capabilities and related certifications.
