About the role

We are looking for an Elixir Engineer to build, maintain, and improve a growing software platform as an embedded member of the team.

The mandatory requirements are 2+ years of professional software development experience, strong hands-on experience with Elixir and/or Erlang, a solid grasp of functional programming principles, experience with PostgreSQL, and strong written and verbal English communication skills.

What you will do

• Build, maintain, and improve Bright Harbor’s software platform using Elixir.
• Work across different areas of the application as part of a small engineering team.
• Collaborate closely with product managers to understand user problems and translate them into effective technical solutions.
• Participate in technical and product discussions and contribute to implementation decisions.
• Take ownership of development work from requirements and problem definition through implementation and delivery.
• Build and maintain integrations with internal and external services and APIs.
• Work with PostgreSQL and the application’s data layer.
• Write reliable, maintainable, well-tested production code.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues across the application.
• Contribute to the evolution of the platform and engineering practices as the product grows.
• Communicate progress, technical considerations, tradeoffs, and blockers clearly with the broader team.
• Work effectively in an environment where priorities and responsibilities may evolve as the company grows.

Must haves

• 2+ years of professional software development experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with Elixir and/or Erlang.
• Strong understanding of functional programming principles.
• Professional experience building and maintaining production web applications.
• Experience working with PostgreSQL or similar relational databases.
• Experience designing, consuming, or maintaining APIs and service integrations.
• Strong understanding of software engineering fundamentals and modern development practices.
• Ability to independently own and deliver engineering tasks.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Comfortable working across different areas of a product rather than within a narrowly specialized role.
• Experience collaborating closely with product managers and other non-engineering stakeholders.
• Ability to understand user problems and incorporate that context into technical decisions.
• Comfortable working in a small, distributed engineering team.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Availability for a full-time engagement.
• Based in Latin America with strong working-hour overlap with the team in Austin, Texas.
• Ability to occasionally travel to the United States if required.

Nice to haves

• Experience with Phoenix LiveView.
• Experience with Fly.io.
• Experience with AWS, particularly migrations or applications transitioning from another hosting platform to AWS.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure, deployment, or production operations.
• Experience with application security or compliance-oriented environments.
• Experience with Event Sourcing.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as Codex, Claude Code, or similar tools.
• Experience working in early-stage companies or small engineering teams where engineers take broad ownership.
