About the Role
The Electronics Technician 'A' on Syracuse University's Facilities Services team is responsible for planning and performing the layout, installation, maintenance and repair of a wide variety of electronic apparatus and devices campus-wide. This role supports critical building systems including fire alarms, emergency lighting, PA systems, low voltage lighting, electronic clocks, two-way radios, and security-related systems, often from blueprints and schematics. The position is on-campus with a Tue-Sat schedule and requires a valid driver's license.
What You'll Do
- Plan and perform the layout, installation, maintenance and repair of electronic apparatus and devices.
- Install, maintain and repair alarm systems including Fire Alarm, Building Security systems (Card Access and CCTV).
- Perform preventative maintenance on building systems including fire alarms, emergency lighting, low voltage lighting, PA systems, electronic clocks, two-way radios, and scoreboards.
- Read and work from blueprints and schematic diagrams; troubleshoot, diagnose and repair/replace components.
- Set up and perform minor repair of personal computers and network equipment as needed.
- Work from ladders, scaffolds, bucket trucks, and other access equipment; use own hand tools as required.
What We're Looking For
- An advanced knowledge of electronics equivalent to two years of accredited technical school training, or an Associate’s degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; plus 2 years of practical experience.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive both manual and automatic transmission vehicles.
- May require knowledge of personal computers, LANs, coaxial cable fabrication and installation, etc.
- Must provide own hand tools including various pliers, wrenches, screwdrivers, VOM grounded outlet tester, hex drivers, hex keys, hacksaw, scribe, etc.
- Strong ability to read blueprints/schematic diagrams and work from them to diagnose and repair electronic systems.
- Willingness to perform preventative maintenance and basic repairs on a variety of building systems.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $32.365-$35.96 per hour.
