Job title: Electronics Lab Technician
About the Role The Electronics Lab Technician will support the development of test professionals by assembling, employing, and maintaining electronics systems used for instruction at the USAF Test Pilot School on Edwards AFB. The role includes working with instructors and satellite operators to create hands-on exercises and ensuring the laboratory is functional, compliant, and conducive to learning. The position supports a wide range of USAF TPS instrumentation, laboratory, and simulation requirements.
What You'll Do
- Maintain, integrate, and upgrade TPS laboratory and open-air equipment to support curriculum and research, including physical integration of new electronics equipment and limited software development to support instrumentation and simulation capabilities.
- Support instructors and students in developing systems and instruments for the TPS educational mission.
- Organize and conduct simulator lab events and ground test events for instructional purposes.
- Provide leadership and assistance in instrument assembly and testing.
- Train students in lab skills and supervise lab activities to ensure compliance with TPS guidelines.
- Manage lab security and access control; serve as primary contact for lab operations, activities, and compliance.
- Monitor and maintain the lab and consumable supplies to keep the lab functioning.
- Collaborate with TPS instrumentation division and other technicians/engineers.
What We're Looking For
- Required: HS Diploma or GED with at least 5 years of relevant experience in a laboratory environment, or a Bachelor's degree in engineering, aerospace, aviation, or related technical field with 2 years of experience (substitution allowed).
- Ability to build laboratory demonstrations.
- Experience using scientific instrumentation and equipment.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Experience using Matlab and Simulink.
Nice to Have
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in engineering, aerospace, aviation, or related technical field.
- Experience with simulation.
- Experience in one or more specialized areas such as control systems, electro-optical systems, electric power systems, spacecraft systems, communications, or deep/machine learning.
- Current Top Secret clearance or Top Secret Investigation completed.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and web-based collaborative resources such as SharePoint and Microsoft Teams.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $80,000 - $120,000 per year commensurate with experience.
