Job title: Electrical Technician

About the Role Electrical Technician responsible for trouble-shooting, repairing, installing, and inspecting equipment across production lines. You will follow Johnson Matthey procedures and regulatory requirements, and you will not modify PLC code. The role supports production by maintaining and repairing equipment across lines, including motors, power distribution and control panels to keep operations safe and productive.

What You'll Do

  • Receive wiring diagrams, specifications and instructions covering scheduled and emergency repair, installation, and inspection work.
  • Analyze drawings and wiring diagrams to locate circuits and determine material or replacement needs; plan a logical approach to troubleshooting.
  • Consider safety precautions and proper isolation of circuits to minimize interference with operations; determine necessary tools and materials.
  • Plan to perform work requiring thorough knowledge of electrical principles, wiring specifications, codes, material properties, and operation of equipment.
  • Locate sources of trouble by tracing and testing circuits and inspecting for faulty operations; use PLC interface as required to diagnose computer-controlled equipment.
  • Dismantle, inspect, repair, adjust, or replace faulty parts and wiring on motors, generators, power distribution and control panels, circuit breakers, rectifiers, electronic devices, etc.; reassemble, test, and adjust equipment for safe and proper operation.
  • Perform work on hot lines as required; replace coils, resistors, rheostats, relays, etc.; adjust contractors, relays, bus rigging, etc.; reconnect terminal leads, panel boards and distribution feeders.
  • In emergencies, shunt out defective coils to restore operation; change DC motor characteristics by shunting series coils.
  • Install conduit, fittings, switches, controls and fixtures and wire and connect all types of electrical equipment as required for new installation or replacement of facilities; make all required splices and connector joints.
  • Adjust new equipment for proper operating characteristics; perform repairs and adjustments to state-of-the-art electrical components (inverter drives, SCR units, programmable controllers, etc.).
  • Comply with Johnson Matthey Hazardous Waste procedures and local, state and federal regulatory requirements.

What We're Looking For

  • High School diploma and electrical trade school certification.
  • Ability to operate forklifts, aerial scissor lifts and boom lifts.
  • Forklift operation experience.
  • Ability to read and analyze wiring diagrams and schematics; determine material or replacement needs.
  • Thorough knowledge of electrical principles, wiring specifications, codes; ability to plan and execute repairs and installations.
  • Experience locating trouble sources by tracing circuits and testing; use of PLC interfaces to diagnose computer-controlled equipment.
  • Willingness to work on hot lines and in production environments; commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with state-of-the-art electrical components such as inverter drives, SCR units, and programmable controllers.
