Job title: Electrical Substation Design Engineer
About the Role A transmission-focused engineering role at Entergy responsible for planning, design, maintenance, and project management related to high-voltage substations and grid operations. The role involves applying engineering principles, complying with industry standards, and supporting storm/restoration efforts.
What You'll Do
- Perform detailed engineering analyses in transmission areas including planning, maintenance, design, project management, construction, and operations.
- Develop site layouts, buswork, grounding, foundations, and equipment drawings for internal substation projects.
- Create detailed engineering scope documents, with cost and time estimates.
- Conduct substation design analyses (ground grid, lightning protection, bus fault) and specify devices/equipment.
- Order and track materials, oversee substation design contractor activities, and perform quality reviews.
- Provide technical support during construction and commissioning; participate in industry design standard development with Design Basis and committees.
- Assist with storm/emergency restoration as needed.
- Ensure compliance with NERC/SERC and other regulations; work with multiple disciplines.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, or Industrial) or Engineering Technology with PE; preferred Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience range depending on level: Engineer I (0-2 yrs), II (2-4 yrs), III (4-6 yrs), Sr (6+ yrs).
- Substation design engineering experience and transmission/substation utility experience preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to apply engineering principles; strong judgment, leadership, communication, and project management skills.
- Knowledge of electrical codes, procedures, standards, and safety policies; ability to manage multiple priorities and work under pressure.
- FE or PE certification preferred.
Nice to Have
- Substation design experience; transmission/substation utility experience.
- FE/PE certification.
