Electrical Project Engineer

About the Role

Electrical Project Engineer at Black & Veatch provides technical leadership on high-voltage substation projects (up to 765kV) within engineering, procurement, and construction activities. You will develop protection and control and physical design deliverables, mentor junior engineers, manage design budgets and schedules, and coordinate with clients, vendors and project teams. This role offers opportunities for travel and cross-disciplinary collaboration in an employee-owned company with a hybrid work environment. What You'll Do

• Function as a Technical Specialist or Project Lead on substation projects up to 765kV, providing project coordination and design guidance

• Develop protection and control design deliverables including protective relays, panel arrangements, one-line/single-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, relay panel wiring and equipment wiring

• Develop physical design deliverables including yard layout, grounding, lightning protection, control building arrangements, and auxiliary power systems in high-voltage substations

• Perform or oversee quality reviews of electrical substation design packages

• Mentor junior team members and provide guidance

• Prepare electrical equipment specifications and Bills of Materials (BOM) for procurement and construction

• Communicate and coordinate project activities with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and other stakeholders

• Present proposals, designs and project activities to stakeholders

• Travel to client or vendor offices and project sites for design reviews and field verification

• Prepare and manage design budgets and schedules

• Provide support to business development or pursuit activities What We're Looking For

• Experience on substation projects up to 765kV in engineering detailed design and EPC

• Proficiency in protection and control design deliverables: protective relays, diagrams, wiring

• Ability to develop yard layouts, grounding, lightning protection, control building design

• Experience preparing electrical equipment specifications and BOMs

• Strong communication and coordination with clients, vendors, subcontractors

• Experience performing or supervising design package quality reviews

• Mentorship and leadership capabilities; ability to guide other engineers

• Willingness and ability to travel to client/vendor offices or project sites

• Ability to manage budgets and schedules for design work

• Recognized as a technical specialist in a practice area with ability to provide guidance to teams Nice to Have
