ELECTRICAL ENGINEER I

General Summary

The Electrical Engineer I is an entry-level position at LSI that is responsible for designing and developing electrical systems and components under the supervision of mid and senior level engineers. This role applies engineering principles to achieve cost-effective and functional designs, conducts research to support innovation, and assists in troubleshooting and testing activities.

Essential Job Functions

• Designs and develops electrical systems and components for assigned projects.
• Prepares electrical drawings and delegates drafting tasks to drafters.
• Develops specifications for materials and equipment purchases.
• Communicates with vendors and manufacturers to source components.
• Conducts component testing and validation, including competitive analysis.
• Inspects and tests vendor-supplied and competitive components.
• Assists in troubleshooting issues on training devices with guidance from mid- and senior-level engineers or technicians.
• Performs limited software design and coding for Arduinos and PLCs as needed.
• May be asked to layout/design Printed Circuit Board (PCB) parts.
• Must be capable of safely handling government-furnished equipment and materials.
• Must be available to work a standard weekly schedule with overtime as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

• Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Solid understanding of electrical theory and engineering techniques.

• Ability to read and interpret schematics.

• Familiarity with lab tools (multimeter, power supplies, etc.).

• Familiarity with engineering standards (ASME, IEEE, NEC, IEC, etc.).

• Good computer skills with Microsoft Office applications.

• Working knowledge of military connectors, terminals, wiring, and circuit protection a plus.

• Working knowledge of both AC (single and three phase, 60-400Hz) and DC electrical systems a plus.

• Working knowledge of serial communication protocols (RS232, RS482, RS422, ARINC-429, etc.) a plus.

• Working knowledge of video (VGA, DVI, DP, HDMI) and communication (USB, Serial, Ethernet) connectivity a plus.

• Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new technologies.

• Experience in reverse-engineering a plus.

• Must be able to travel.

• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and in writing.

• Must be able to obtain a security clearance when required by the contract.

• Education and Experience

• Bachelor of Science in an engineering discipline from an ABET accredited school, Electrical Engineering is strongly preferred.

• Some experience with CAD tools; AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks Electrical experience is preferred.
