About the Role Alfa Laval UK&I is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our Projects Team based in Keele or Camberley, UK. The role focuses on electrical-automation system design for wastewater treatment and involves bid/quotation support, engineering and design, procurement specifications, testing, documentation and technical support through the project lifecycle.
What You'll Do
- Handle the electrical part of our portfolio of mid-to-large size projects, balancing time, specification and budget set by the main PM.
- Specify and procure/manage suppliers for control panels and instrumentation for components, systems and plants.
- Manage subcontractors performing electrical installation.
- Create or review supplier wiring diagrams.
- FAT of control panels and equipment at supplier premises in the UK.
- Produce project documentation such as control philosophy, equipment schedules, O&M manuals.
- Participate in proposal and sales work with the sales team.
- Drive cost optimization through design and procurement with project team support.
- Support start-up, commissioning and troubleshooting on site or remotely where possible.
- Perform other electrical engineering duties to help achieve project/department goals.
What We're Looking For
- Experienced Electrical Engineer with solid experience in a similar role.
- Ability to read/modify electrical schematics; solid knowledge of electrical engineering principles.
- Autonomous, motivated, agile with a customer-focused approach; mindful of time, cost and resources.
- Self-reliant in prioritising and delivering multiple tasks for multiple stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills; able to network and maintain internal customer relationships.
- Confident in communicating with customers in person or remotely.
- Commercial awareness within a projects environment; able to provide concise updates to peers and management.
- Structured, organised and proactive in driving tasks to completion.
- Willing to travel to customer and supplier sites across the UK and Ireland for short-duration meetings and activities.
Nice to Have
- HNC/HND in electrical engineering (degree preferred) or significant engineering-related experience.
- Solid understanding of UK standards and WIMES; ATEX/DSEAR beneficial but not mandatory.
- Knowledge of motors, variable frequency drives, pumps, flow meters, sensors, control valves.
- Working knowledge of PLC/HMI/SCADA systems (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, B&R) and various protocols.
- Background with Alfa Laval products is desirable (decanter centrifuges, drum thickeners, belt thickeners).
