EHS Specialist

Guardian Glass is looking for an EHS Specialist to join our team in DeWitt, IA!

Are you passionate about protecting people, understanding how work gets done, and creating safer and more reliable workplaces? In this role, you will be a key resource for health and safety at our manufacturing facility, working directly with employees, supervisors, engineers, maintenance, and plant leadership to identify risk, improve critical safety systems, and build health and safety capability throughout the organization.

This position will have a strong emphasis on Health & Safety, while also providing exposure to and occasional support of environmental activities. What You Will Do

  • Spend meaningful time in the field developing an understanding of plant processes, employee tasks, and how work is actually performed.
  • Help implement and sustain compliance with OSHA requirements and other applicable EHS regulations by partnering with operations, maintenance, engineering, and leadership.
  • Support and continuously improve critical health and safety programs, including areas such as hazardous energy control/LOTO, machine safety, fall protection, confined space, hot work, electrical safety, PPE, industrial hygiene, respiratory protection, mobile equipment, and contractor safety.
  • Facilitate and improve risk assessments for routine and non-routine work, equipment, projects, and changes.
  • Support incident, near-miss, and high-potential event investigations with an emphasis on learning, understanding contributing factors, and developing effective corrective actions.
  • Develop and deliver practical EHS training for employees, operations, and supervisory staff.
  • Partner with employees, supervisors, and leaders to build health and safety capability, strengthen ownership, and support continuous improvement throughout the facility.
  • Participate in field observations, audits, inspections, employee engagement, and other proactive risk-reduction activities.
  • Support EHS considerations for new equipment, process changes, engineering projects, and contractor activities.
  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve EHS programs, procedures, documentation, and compliance systems.
  • Stay current with evolving EHS regulations, standards, and industry practices and help translate requirements into practical solutions for the facility.
  • Provide support for environmental compliance activities as needed, including inspections, recordkeeping, environmental training, waste management, and other air, water, or waste-related activities.
  • Collaborate with the broader EHS team on site-wide initiatives and continuous improvement.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Two or more years of experience in EHS, safety, manufacturing operations, maintenance, engineering, or a related industrial environment, with demonstrated involvement in health and safety initiatives, risk reduction efforts, compliance activities, or operational improvement.
  • Experience communicating and partnering effectively with employees, supervisors, and leaders to drive safety improvements and build organizational capability.

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Bachelors Degree in Safety, Occupational Health, Engineering, Environmental Health & Safety, or a related field
  • Certification in: First Aid and CPR, OSHA, HAZWOPER, Department of Transportation for hazardous shipments, RCRA training
  • Experience within a manufacturing, glass, chemical, heavy industrial, or process-driven environment
  • Experience facilitating risk assessments, incident investigations, and root cause analyses
  • Experience leading or supporting contractor safety programs
  • Experience with industrial hygiene monitoring or exposure assessments
  • Experience supporting machine safety, hazardous energy control, or other critical risk programs
