About the Role The EHS Specialist will support Illumina's Global EHS strategy for compliance and risk management in the delivery of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and related product and chemical management information and processes. This individual will author Illumina product SDS using the SAP EHS module while supporting Illumina’s on-site chemical inventory and SDS Right to Know (RTK) systems. The role requires proficiency in SAP EHS, 3E systems, effective communication, vendor management, and project management to ensure safety and regulatory compliance. What You'll Do
- Author Illumina product SDS using SAP EHS software in coordination with the Global EHS team and stakeholders, and related timelines.
- Maintain the SAP EHS Module data integrity and regulatory compliance.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to collect and examine information needed to support SDS authoring (chemical composition, properties, hazards, safe handling).
- Plan, coordinate, and execute legacy SDS transitions to the SAP EHS Module.
- Ensure SDSs comply with OSHA HCS and GHS; keep SDSs up-to-date with product/formulation or regulation changes.
- Provide SDS data to stakeholders including GHS labeling information and DG classifications.
- Ensure SDSs are published and searchable on the Illumina SDS search engine for customers; assist with customer requests.
- Liaise with the RTK Vendor (3E) to manage updates, resolve issues, and oversee vendor performance; support the RTK system and regulatory compliance across all Illumina locations.
- Manage and continuously improve RTK and on-site chemical inventory processes; reconcile records and address discrepancies with site representatives.
- Provide inventory data, labeling, and DG classifications to stakeholders; deliver training on SDS content and hazard communication.
- Act as regulatory audit/inquiry point of contact for hazard communication and chemical inventory; maintain records and analyze performance metrics to identify improvements.
- Collaborate with global/regional EHS teams to align hazard communication and inventory programs and coordinate daily activities across regions.
- Identify and implement process improvements in SDS authoring, RTK system, chemical inventory management, and vendor coordination; troubleshoot and escalate IT/system issues as needed. What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Safety, Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Sciences, Environmental or Safety Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Public Health, Business, IT Management, or related field; 2+ years of industry experience.
- Proven expertise in SAP EHS Module (configuration and customization) and hands-on experience with 3E systems (or similar).
- Strong understanding of OSHA HCS, GHS, and Dangerous Goods (DG) classifications.
- Experience in project management and vendor relationship management; ability to ensure contract compliance.
- Experience with data management, regulatory compliance, and EHS systems troubleshooting is a plus.
- Ability to learn technical processes quickly; strong teamwork skills and biotechnology/life sciences/pharmaceutical experience advantageous.
- Knowledge of OSHA/GHS regulations and SAP SDS authoring software; proficient information management system execution and support.
