About the Role
The SU Press at the Syracuse University Libraries is seeking an Editorial and Production Assistant (EPA). This role supports the Editorial and Production team through all stages of book production, including reprints, proofs, vendor communications, and Library of Congress cataloging applications. The EPA also participates in team meetings and will explore approved AI tools to help meet university goals.
What You'll Do
- Assist with project organization, tracking, and assessment; respond to and manage vendor requests.
- Prepare reprint files and correspond with press staff.
- Check print and digital proofs and review advance copies of print and ePub for errors and accessibility compliance.
- Submit Library of Congress cataloging applications.
- Conduct print and digital file assessment, maintenance, and clean‑up as directed.
- Participate in team and press‑wide meetings and support the book publishing process.
- Investigate and apply approved artificial intelligence tools to support university goals.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in a humanities or applied arts discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Sound knowledge of English language and grammar, scholarly apparatus, and the Chicago Manual of Style.
- Excellent writing and editing skills, attention to detail, and strong organizational abilities.
- Familiarity with digital image and text files, design principles, and accessibility considerations.
- Familiarity with HTML/XML and CSS.
- Training or experience using Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Cloud, especially InDesign.
Nice to Have
- Interest in exploring approved AI tools to support publishing workflows or university goals.
Compensation & Benefits
- Pay range: $25.00 per hour.
- On-campus position requiring regular in-person presence; standard university business hours apply (8:30am–5:00pm in the academic year, with 8:00am–4:30pm in summer).
