As our content operations continue to expand, we are seeking a detail-oriented and highly skilled Editor / Proofreader to join our remote team.

This position is ideal for someone with an exceptional command of written English, strong attention to detail, and a genuine passion for words. The successful candidate will ensure that written materials are clear, accurate, engaging, consistent, and aligned with Cali Jewel's brand voice before they are published or distributed.

The Editor / Proofreader will work across a variety of content formats, including website copy, blog articles, social-media content, marketing materials, email campaigns, product descriptions, press materials, internal documents, and other digital communications.

Position Overview

As an Editor / Proofreader, you will review written content from initial drafts through final publication. You will identify and correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, sentence structure, formatting, clarity, consistency, and factual or stylistic issues.

Beyond correcting mistakes, you will help strengthen the quality of our content. You should be comfortable suggesting improvements to wording, organization, tone, and readability while preserving the original purpose and personality of each piece.

The ideal candidate is meticulous without losing sight of the bigger picture. You should be able to identify a misplaced comma, but also recognize when an entire paragraph needs restructuring to communicate an idea more effectively.

Key Responsibilities

• Editing & Proofreading

• Review and edit written content for grammar, spelling, punctuation, syntax, clarity, consistency, and overall readability.

• Proofread content carefully before publication to identify errors that may have been missed during the editing process.

• Ensure content follows established brand guidelines and editorial standards.

• Improve sentence structure, flow, word choice, and organization while maintaining the writer's intended message.

• Check headlines, captions, calls-to-action, product descriptions, emails, articles, and other marketing copy.

• Identify inconsistencies in terminology, capitalization, formatting, tone, and style.

• Review final versions of documents and digital content before publication.

• Content Quality & Brand Voice

• Maintain a consistent Cali Jewel voice across written communications.

• Ensure content is professional, engaging, easy to understand, and appropriate for the intended audience.

• Work with writers and marketing team members to strengthen content without unnecessarily changing the author's voice.

• Help develop and maintain editorial guidelines, style guides, and content standards.

• Identify recurring writing issues and provide constructive feedback to content creators.

• Fact-Checking & Accuracy

• Verify names, dates, figures, statistics, product information, quotations, links, and other important details when required.

• Flag questionable or potentially inaccurate information for review.

• Check hyperlinks and references for accuracy and functionality.

• Ensure claims and statements are presented clearly and responsibly.

• Maintain high standards of accuracy across all published materials.

• Collaboration

• Work closely with writers, social-media managers, designers, marketing specialists, and leadership.

• Provide clear and constructive editorial feedback.

• Participate in content planning and review meetings when necessary.

• Manage multiple editing assignments while meeting established deadlines.

• Communicate promptly when additional information or clarification is needed.

• Help establish efficient editorial workflows for remote collaboration.

• Digital Content

• Edit content intended for websites, blogs, newsletters, social media, email campaigns, and other digital platforms.

• Review content for online readability, including headings, paragraph structure, formatting, and calls-to-action.

• Assist with basic SEO editing, including keyword placement, headings, metadata, and readability where applicable.

• Adapt content for different platforms while preserving the core message and brand identity.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Writing, or a related field preferred.

• 2+ years of professional editing, proofreading, writing, journalism, publishing, marketing, or related experience preferred.

• Exceptional knowledge of English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and sentence structure.

• Excellent written communication skills.

• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

• Ability to maintain consistency across large amounts of content.

• Strong organizational and time-management abilities.

• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines independently.

• Comfortable working remotely with digital collaboration and project-management tools.

• Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Grammarly, or similar editing tools.

• Preferred Skills

• Experience with digital marketing, social media, e-commerce, lifestyle, beauty, fashion, jewelry, or consumer brands is a plus.

• Knowledge of SEO, content marketing, AP Style, Chicago Manual of Style, or other recognized editorial standards is also beneficial.

• Candidates should be comfortable providing editorial recommendations and explaining changes professionally and constructively.

Compensation

Estimated Salary Range: $55,000–$80,000 per year, depending on experience, qualifications, location, and scope of responsibilities.

Highly experienced candidates with specialized editorial, publishing, technical, or marketing expertise may be considered for higher compensation.
