About the Role We are seeking a dynamic and ambitious Editor-in-Chief with a PhD in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer/Transport Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, Information Science, Transport, or a related field to lead the open-access journal Advanced Mobility within Wiley's Material Science & Physics – AI/Robotics cluster. The role will focus on strategic development, engaging the research community, and overseeing the peer-review process and publishing ethics to raise the journal’s profile. The Editor-in-Chief is expected to actively participate in conferences, institute visits, and broader outreach activities.
What You'll Do
- Strategically develop one or more journals in collaboration with the in-house team, aligning with the broader physical sciences and engineering portfolio.
- Establish and maintain a strong network of scientists who are authors, peer reviewers, and board members.
- Leverage your subject expertise and desk research to drive content acquisition and submissions growth.
- Represent Wiley and the physical sciences portfolio at conferences and through in-person and virtual outreach activities at universities and research institutes.
- Collaborate with colleagues across departments to develop the journal portfolio.
- Contribute to editorial evaluation, peer review, and decision-making for manuscripts submitted to one or more journals.
- Ensure adoption of best practices and the highest ethical standards in publishing; advocate for Open Access workflows where applicable.
What We're Looking For
- A PhD in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer/Transport Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, Information Science, Transport, or a related field with an excellent research background and awareness of recent trends.
- 2+ years of post-PhD experience would be beneficial but not essential (post-doctoral, industrial, academic, publishing, or international experience).
- Subject matter expertise in Smart Cities, Smart Grids, sustainable mobility, Autonomous and Connected Vehicles, Mobility as a Service, Logistics and Freight Mobility, and/or related fields.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills, with a flexible and innovative approach to problems and a focus on defining and achieving outcomes.
- Ability to work in a collaborative setting and achieve results through personal influence and engagement.
- Self-motivated, diplomatic, and flexible with outstanding organizational, efficiency, and time-management skills; excellent command of English.
- Strong understanding of scientific publishing, including commissioning and the peer-review process. Prior experience in publishing, editorial, or science communication and understanding of Open Access workflows and Open Research is highly desirable.
- Keen interest in science and science communication, and a strong desire to advocate for innovations in publishing and open research.
- Confidence to present and represent the journal.
