About the Role
An experienced Economist to join IDB's Colombia Country Office as a Country Economist. You will perform a wide range of functions to support Colombia's economic growth and social development, including economic monitoring, analysis, and policy dialogue to advance the Bank's mandate. What You'll Do

Analyze and monitor Colombia's macroeconomic developments and microeconomic issues (e.g., labor market, banking sector) and identify risks and opportunities.

Lead and contribute to research for the Country Diagnostic for Impact (CDI), Country Engagement Notes, Country plans, or Country Strategy; support design and implementation of the Bank's program; identify critical areas for the Bank's dialogue with the country.

Develop and lead the evaluation, preparation, monitoring, and reporting of the Country Strategy; participate in policy dialogue with counterparts (MEF, Central Bank) and support exchanges with the private sector and other stakeholders.

Monitor and analyze key social trends in the country.

Provide technical support to counterparts across different areas under the guidance of the Country Representative; stay aligned with the Country Office's priorities.

Stay abreast of the activities of multilateral agencies and donors and support coordination efforts with them.

Knowledge management: generate analytical and policy-relevant knowledge; identify country needs in economic terms; develop and lead knowledge generation, enhancement, and dissemination programs; lead country-level research; identify best practices and knowledge products; participate in economic forums and maintain external networks; work with sector specialists to ensure policy recommendations reflect country realities.

Internal corporate management: represent the Bank in discussions addressing strategic initiatives; contribute to transversal regional initiatives; prepare periodic macroeconomic outlook reports and inputs for reports on the country’s economic, political, and social situation; manage with the Coordinator the relevant activities of the country’s work plan.

Programming: prepare documents for macroeconomic safeguards and coordinate the approval process with the REA; identify operational risks and opportunities; provide strategic and analytical inputs for programming dialogues; contribute to country programming processes and their alignment with the Country Strategy; ensure consistency of operations with the country’s challenges and intervention logic.

Design and execution: review the viability and alignment of lending operations and technical cooperation with the Bank's program priorities; participate in the project cycle to improve project quality and align with central or strategic issues; analyze lessons learned at the close of operations. Education: Ph.D. or master’s degree in economics or a closely related field.

Experience: Minimum six (6) years of relevant experience in economic research, economic monitoring, analysis of economic information, econometrics, impact evaluations and fiscal sustainability. Years of PhD studies count toward experience. Proven knowledge of standard debt analysis techniques, balance of payments current account and sustainability analysis is a requirement. Experience in policy issues and development problems in the region. Experience working in the IDB or other multilateral development organizations, as well as proficiency in econometrics software (STATA, R, MATLAB, etc.) preferred.
