Job title: Durability Evaluation Engineer II
About the Role Durability Evaluation Engineer II will research, develop, and oversee full-vehicle durability testing at an automotive proving ground to support in-market durability and corrosion testing across Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis models in North America. The Durability Department conducts tests aligned to North American environment and customer expectations.
What You'll Do
- Perform daily follow-up of vehicle incidents reported by test drivers and technicians, judge follow-up level, and elevate important reports to issue status.
- Report, investigate, and follow-up issues to resolution; communicate with global stakeholders to establish effective countermeasures and verify their effectiveness.
- Complete static and dynamic vehicle inspections on a periodic basis; monitor degradation of performance, handling, NVH, and other characteristics; quantify degradation using subjective scales or objective measurements.
- Develop and refine inspection processes and metrics; coordinate inspections of used vehicles on-site and in the field; collect and report real-world customer condition data.
- Use survey data to inform the development of accelerated proving-ground test modes; monitor field durability issues from warranty, port, FSE, customer surveys, automotive press, and social media.
- Install and configure data acquisition equipment; work with data inputs including CAN bus, thermocouples, strain gauges, accelerometers, and more.
- Retrieve data, perform analysis, and provide high-level commentary on results.
- Support third-party data collection requests for test-mode development, CAE model correlation, research studies, market understanding, and design requirement setting.
- Develop and write procedures to define and organize tasks for engineering, technician, or test driver staff; communicate procedures concisely and professionally.
- Complete administrative tasks (purchasing, vacation requests, business travel plans, etc.); plan and oversee project work such as fixed-asset purchases or facility/equipment repairs.
- Serve as the voice of the North American customer by providing local experience and perspective on environment, customer usage, and expectations.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, or Systems Engineering preferred).
- 4+ years of experience in vehicle testing and development.
- 2+ years’ experience in automotive proving ground environment preferred.
- Required Skills and Knowledge as indicated in the posting; ability to work with data acquisition, instrumentation, and cross-functional communication.
