Job Description Providing overall strategic leadership and direction for solid waste management services in the county. Overseeing implementation of the county solid waste management plan, policies, strategies and programmes. Supervising and coordinating the functions of the deputy directors responsible for field services and recycle & disposal management. Coordinating the development of departmental work plans, budgets, programmes and performance targets. Overseeing integrated solid waste collection, transportation, recycling, recovery, treatment and disposal services. Monitoring performance of solid waste management services and implementing measures to improve service delivery. Overseeing management and development of solid waste management infrastructure, facilities, equipment and assets. Coordinating collaboration with relevant county departments, national government agencies, private sector, development partners and other stakeholders. Providing strategic leadership on waste reduction, recycling, resource recovery and sustainable waste management initiatives. Advising on solid waste management policy, infrastructure, service delivery and emerging sector issues. Preparing and submitting reports on solid waste management programmes, performance and service delivery.

Requirements & Qualifications Bachelor's degree in environmental science, environmental management, environmental engineering, waste management, natural resource management, engineering, public administration or a related field from a recognized institution. Masters in environmental science, environmental management, environmental engineering, waste management, natural resource management, engineering, public administration or a related field from a recognized institution. At least five (5) years' relevant professional experience in solid waste management, environmental management or a related field, including at least three (3) years in a supervisory or management position. Demonstrated knowledge of integrated solid waste management systems and applicable legislation. Member of environment institute of kenya (eik) or a relevant professional body will be an added advantage. Completion of a strategic leadership development course lasting not less than six (6) weeks from a recognized institution will be an added advantage. Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
