About the Role Fitch's North American Corporates Group is seeking a Director for coverage of the Retail & Consumer sector, based in New York, Chicago, or Toronto. The role combines lead credit analysis with financial modeling, management engagement, and communication of rating rationale to internal committees and external audiences. It may include managerial responsibilities and requires intellectual curiosity and the ability to explain complex topics clearly. What You'll Do
- Perform analysis of key quantitative and qualitative factors influencing the credit quality of Retail & Consumer sector companies
- Develop and maintain comprehensive financial models
- Conduct meetings with Retail & Consumer industry management teams
- Present analysis to internal credit rating committees
- Communicate rating rationale to external audiences (institutional investors, sell-side analysts, and media) in meetings, calls, press releases and written research reports
- Write timely and effective research on topical issues
- Participate in evaluating other credits within Corporates and related credit groups
- Represent Fitch in panel discussions and conferences organized by industry associations, regulatory bodies, etc.
- Mentor junior members of the Retail & Consumer sector
- Role may include managerial responsibilities What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree required; MBA or other advanced degree a plus
- CFA/CPA preferred
- 8+ years relevant experience, including coverage or knowledge of Retail & Consumer sectors
- Capital markets and/or credit analysis experience a plus
- Employee management experience a plus
- Expertise in Excel and Word
- Strong analytical, quantitative, and organizational skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to shift between multiple projects as priorities change
- Ability to excel in a team oriented environment Nice to Have
- Deep understanding of Retail & Consumer
- Professional background in capital markets and/or credit analysis with well-developed financial statement analysis skills
- Experience interpreting complex legal documents such as bank agreements and bond indentures
