About this role

Description

  • Job Summary

  • This role will serve as the senior Finance leader for the Distribution & Marketing (D&M) organization, with end-to-end responsibility for planning, results, and financial analytics across all D&M verticals. Reporting to the USRM Finance Planning Leader and serving as the dedicated finance partner to the Chief Distribution & Marketing Officer, the individual will act as a trusted advisor who brings financial and analytical insight to the decisions that shape D&M’s strategy, investments, and performance.

  • The role requires a combination of deep financial acumen, strong business partnership, analytical judgment, and proven people leadership. As the voice of D&M for monthly results with the Executive Leadership Team (ELT), the individual will be expected to explain performance with clarity and confidence, connect results to underlying business drivers, and provide a forward-looking view of risks and opportunities.

  • Key areas of focus include building and managing New Business and expense plans, owning D&M’s expense savings goals, and bringing constructive challenge to long-term initiatives and investments. The individual will work closely with Product and Expense teams, Analytics, and the broader Finance organization, serving as the key liaison who translates complex analytical themes into clear, decision-ready insight for senior leadership.

  • Success in this role will depend on the ability to earn the trust of senior business leaders, lead and develop a high-performing team, balance partnership with independent challenge, and bring transparency and discipline to how D&M plans, spends, and measures performance.

  • Job Responsibilities

  • Strategic partnership and advisory

  • Serve as the dedicated finance partner and trusted advisor to the Chief Distribution & Marketing Officer, providing financial and analytical guidance on strategy, performance, and key business decisions.

  • Develop a strong working understanding of all D&M verticals and their economics, providing expertise that helps leaders weigh tradeoffs and prioritize investments.

  • Bring constructive challenge to long-term initiatives and investments, ensuring business cases are well grounded, assumptions are tested, and expected returns are tracked over time.

  • Results and performance reporting

  • Own D&M monthly results and serve as the voice of D&M for the ELT, explaining performance against plan and prior periods and connecting outcomes to underlying business drivers.

  • Deliver clear, forward-looking commentary on risks, opportunities, and emerging trends, so leadership can act early rather than react late.

  • Planning and expense management

  • Lead the D&M planning process, partnering with Product and Expense teams to build New Business and expense plans that are aligned with enterprise targets and fully transparent in their assumptions and outputs.

  • Own all D&M expense savings goals, including identifying opportunities, tracking delivery against commitments, and holding the business accountable for results.

  • Monitor spend and investment performance throughout the year, recommending adjustments as business conditions change.

  • Analytics and insight

  • Act as the key liaison between D&M, Analytics, and Finance, aligning on priorities and ensuring analytical work supports the most important business questions.

  • Translate complex analytical themes into concise, digestible output for senior leadership, focusing on the “so what” and the decisions it should inform.

  • People leadership

  • Lead, develop, and retain a team ranging from individual contributors to people leaders, setting clear expectations and building a culture of accountability, curiosity, and partnership.

  • Build the team’s capabilities in business partnering, analytics, and executive communication, and create development paths that prepare team members for broader roles.

  • Drive continuous improvement in the team’s processes, tools, and deliverables to increase efficiency and the quality of insight provided to the business.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in finance, business or accounting, or equivalent experience

  • CPA and/or MBA strongly preferred

  • 10-15 years of experience, including proven P&C industry experience and management responsibility
