Job title: Director of the Library
About the Role Director of the Library at WAU, responsible for the overall functioning of the Weis Library and the Curriculum Library, including staff recruitment, administration and supervision; with the Provost's approval, formulates policies and prepares the operating budget. Works with department chairs to ensure resources meet curriculum needs and provides library instruction; is responsible for the safety and security of the collection and helps plan for growth in collaboration with the faculty and campus community.
What You'll Do
- Provide leadership for the University's library services and manage day-to-day operations
- Formulate policies and procedures and prepare annual budgets; monitor expenditures and variances
- Recruit, train, supervise, evaluate, and appraise library personnel; delegate supervisory responsibilities as appropriate
- Manage library resources, facilities, and inventories; oversee space allocation and maintenance
- Coordinate with departments to identify current and needed resources; provide library instruction for students and faculty
- Develop professional development opportunities for library staff; participate in local, regional, and national professional organizations
- Promote library services and maintain current information on the Weis Library website; collaborate with the Webmaster
- Collect, tabulate, and report library statistics; prepare narrative and statistical reports
- Maintain satisfactory relationships with consortia (ALICE, MDL); attend meetings and participate in budgeting
- Ensure building safety and security and coordinate with appropriate university offices
- Stay abreast of technological advances and advocate for library technology upgrades
What We're Looking For
- Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent
- Demonstrated commitment to the use of new information technologies
- Experience with print and digital resources, online databases, and the Internet
- Understanding of information literacy concepts and commitment to information literacy
- Active service orientation and strong communication skills (oral and written)
- Leadership, budgeting, and supervisory abilities; ability to work with faculty and administrators
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $65,000 per year
- Exempt role
