About the Role The Office of Residence Life at Oberlin College seeks a Director of Residential and Conference Services. This full-time, 12-month Administrative and Professional position reports to the Assistant Vice President and Dean of Residence Life and Auxiliary Services. The role oversees a campus-wide conference program and coordinates with dining, facilities, and other campus partners to provide high-quality conference and housing services. The director will guide the conference services website and StarRez conference portal; update and maintain billing for conference service and dining with marketing that clarifies policies and timelines. A focus on excellent customer service and respectful interactions with students, parents, faculty, staff, and community members is essential.
What You'll Do
- Direct all Conference Service events for internal and external clients, including policy review and development of best practices within the mission.
- Manage all client contracts for major events (summer programs, day camps, and other programs) in collaboration with Student Leadership and Involvement.
- Conduct client meetings to determine needs and ensure campus policy and contract alignment.
- Coordinate summer dining schedules with food service partners.
- Establish open communication with local community partners, campus partners, and Oberlin College groups.
- Develop and manage budgets, including planning, monitoring, reporting, and reconciliation of revenue (including summer conference invoices).
- Oversee Conference Service database systems, financial programs, and other technology as necessary.
- In partnership with Communications, develop marketing strategies to increase summer programs and improve web presence for external client recruitment and revenue opportunities.
- Participate in professional development and associations (ACCED-I, ACUHO-I, Ohio 5 Conference Directors Consortium).
- Provide direct supervision and mentorship for one Master’s-level Assistant Director and multiple student employees.
- Assist with early arrivals, residence hall openings/closings, orientation, welcome week, and life safety and facilities inspections.
- Collaborate with Student Life staff to review and revise policies and procedures; engage in campus-wide on-call responsibilities.
- All other duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For
- Master’s degree (in student personnel or another field) and excellent oral and written communication skills, strong customer service and organizational abilities, and a record of working collegially with diverse constituencies.
- Integrity and cooperative approach to administration and management.
Nice to Have
- 4-6 years of progressive professional experience in residence hall administration, supervision, website development, database management, and oversight of multifaceted processes.
- Experience with StarRez conference portal and related systems; engagement with professional development organizations (ACCED-I, ACUHO-I, Ohio 5 Conference Directors Consortium).
Compensation & Benefits
- Annualized salary of $65,000 – $70,000. Institutional support for professional development engagement to gather and apply knowledge.
