Responsibilities

• Are you an energetic and passionate leader dedicated to enhancing resident quality of life? We are seeking a dynamic Director of Recreation Services to lead, innovate, and elevate our resident activity programming.

• You will oversee the full scope of recreation services. You will design individualized and group activity plans, foster vibrant community connections, lead a compassionate team, and build a warm, engaging environment where every resident feels valued and empowered.

• Position Highlights

• Program Leadership & Resident Engagement

• Design & Implement Programs: Develop a diverse calendar of physical, social, cognitive, and creative activities tailored to residents' preferences, abilities, and care goals.

• Person-Centered Care: Conduct comprehensive assessments and collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team to create individualized care plans.

• Resident Advocacy: Involve residents in program planning to ensure activities align with their personal interests and promote independence.

• Team Supervision & Leadership

• Staff Management: Recruit, onboard, mentor, and supervise recreation staff and volunteers, fostering a positive and collaborative team culture.

• Training & Compliance: Provide regular staff education on the benefits of therapeutic recreation, documentation standards, safety, and infection control.

• Volunteer Program: Build and sustain an active volunteer program through targeted outreach, screening, training, and recognition.

• Departmental Operations & Administration

• Budget & Resource Management: Prepare, monitor, and manage the annual recreation budget, including sourcing equipment, supplies, and technology tools.

• Quality Improvement: Regularly evaluate program effectiveness through resident feedback and present key findings to the Quality Improvement Committee.

• Community & Family Relations: Build strong connections with resident families, local organizations, and community partners to enrich on-site and off-site events.

Qualifications

• Qualifications & Experience (Must meet ONE of the following)

• Certified Professional: Current certification as an Activity Director Certified (ADC) through NCCAP, or Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) through NCTRC.

• Degree / Training: Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation (preferred) OR completion of the NAAP/NCCAP Basic and Advanced Management Course for Activity Professionals.

• Relevant

Experience

• At least 2 years of social or recreational programming experience within the past 5 years, including at least 1 year of full-time experience in a healthcare patient activities program.

• Clinical Credential: Qualified Occupational Therapist (OT) or Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA).

• General Requirements

• Language Proficiency: Strong English communication skills (reading, writing, and speaking) to effectively support patient safety, wellbeing, and emergency response.

• Health Screening: Verification of TST (tuberculin skin test) as required by state law and company policy (testing can be administered on-site upon hire).
