About the Role The Director of Jewish Life at Colgate University oversees all aspects of Jewish life on campus and is part of a multi-faith chaplaincy team within the President's Office. The position embodies Jewish tradition while serving the broader university community and advancing inclusive excellence. This role collaborates across departments and with student groups to foster interfaith understanding and meaningful religious life on campus.

What You'll Do

  • Provide collaborative leadership for Jewish life services and religious observances during the academic year.
  • Recruit, encourage, and mentor student leadership; oversee the M. Saperstein Jewish Center (including two kosher kitchens).
  • Provide comprehensive advising for the Colgate Jewish Union Board; support leadership in religious, social, and cultural matters.
  • Maintain affiliation with Hillel; liaise with Hillel and the Program in Jewish Studies to coordinate programming for Jewish students.
  • Plan and implement a comprehensive program of Jewish religious life involving students, faculty, administrators, and the Hamilton community; collaborate with faculty from Jewish Studies and other departments; coordinate with Alumni Relations and Admissions.
  • Serve people across the spectrum of Judaism and their families; conduct regular and seasonal worship with liturgical expertise.
  • Provide high-quality pastoral care and confidential counseling as part of the University chaplaincy staff.
  • Lead and coordinate public events, inter-faith ceremonies, and other faith-related gatherings; manage risk and ensure policy compliance.
  • Advise and train student groups; design leadership opportunities and promote meaningful participation.

  • Flexibility and willingness to perform other duties as assigned.

Nice to Have

  • Experience working in a college or university setting with a primary student audience is preferred
  • Post-graduate work in Jewish Studies or professional experience working with Jewish college students in a multi-faith environment, preferred
  • Rabbinical background is a strong plus

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $80,000 - $85,000
