About the Role The Director of Human Resources at Millsaps College leads the college’s comprehensive HR functions, including compensation and benefits, recruitment, employee relations, compliance, payroll, and HR information systems. This full-time on-site role reports to the Vice President for Finance and Administration and serves as a strategic partner to advance people strategies across the campus community. What You'll Do

  • Provide strategic direction and oversight of the college’s compensation programs; ensure regulatory compliance and market-based salary levels to attract and retain qualified employees.
  • Direct development and implementation of employee relations programs to foster a positive, productive work environment.
  • Oversee recruitment and sourcing to ensure effective hiring; develop and execute best practices for hiring and talent management.
  • Ensure marketing and communications alignment for HR information on the college website to maximize information for current and prospective employees.
  • Maintain all job descriptions and lead the performance management process; assist with performance remediation plans as needed.
  • Participate in coaching, disciplining, and termination; ensure open communications with all employees.
  • Lead employee recognition activities and the annual years-of-service program.
  • Maintain knowledge of employment laws and ensure compliance; educate supervisors and senior leaders on HR matters and align programs with policies.
  • Establish and implement short- and long-range goals, policies, and procedures; monitor effectiveness and drive improvements; maintain the staff handbook.
  • Direct onboarding, training, and development programs; oversee payroll processes (including student employment).
  • Administer insurance, retirement, and other benefits programs; evaluate and propose improvements.
  • Serve as Title IX representative; investigate complaints and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Manage unemployment processes, workers’ compensation, and compliance with EEO, ADA, FMLA, and other regulations.
  • Complete the annual IPEDS report; streamline processes and advance HR data management.
  • Conduct research and analysis of organizational trends; develop and oversee the HR department budget.
  • Facilitate professional development, training, and certification for HR staff; ensure data accuracy, security, and integrity.
  • Perform other duties as required. What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • At least seven years of HR management experience.
  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP highly preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and organizational skills.
  • Strong time management with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership capabilities.
  • Ability to adapt to the needs of the college and employees; prioritize and delegate tasks.
  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and HR systems; ability to quickly learn college HR systems. Nice to Have
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • SHRM certification (SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP) strongly preferred. Compensation & Benefits
