About the job
Margin Department is hiring a senior, hands-on growth operator to lead a small portfolio of high seven- to low nine-figure consumer brands.
You will serve as the primary growth lead for each brand in your portfolio – owning P&L-connected media strategy, day-to-day paid media decisions, performance creative strategy, forecasting, and communication with clients.
You will have meaningful autonomy, direct support from the broader Margin Department team, and proprietary infrastructure through MarginOS. As your portfolio reaches full capacity, you will have the opportunity to hire and develop a Growth Analyst to support execution.
This role is built for someone who wants to remain close to the craft while taking full responsibility for business outcomes.
About Margin Department
Margin Department is an embedded growth partner for product-led consumer brands, specializing in direct-to-consumer e-commerce businesses generating high seven- to low nine-figure annual revenues.
The company was founded by a growth marketer and an engineer with years of experience growing brands from the inside. We are turning that experience into a software-enabled service that gives growing consumer businesses access to technology and talent they could not otherwise justify building in-house.
MarginOS is our proprietary growth operating system. Built and maintained by our engineering team, it brings financial data, marketing performance, customer behavior, product analytics, and other critical signals into one place. It allows our team to understand the full picture of a business and make better decisions more quickly. You will use MarginOS every day and will have a meaningful voice in shaping what it becomes.
As a small but rapidly growing team, we are looking for someone excited by the opportunity to help build a company – not simply step into a job that has already been fully defined.
About the Role
You will own strategy, client relationships, and performance outcomes across a small portfolio of growth-stage consumer brands.
For each brand, you will be responsible for connecting the economics of the business to the decisions being made in its ad accounts. You will determine where the next dollar should be invested, what creative should be made, how budgets map to margin and cash flow priorities, and what the client needs to hear when performance is strong (or when it is not).
This is a senior individual-contributor role. You will work directly in the accounts, build models, review performance, lead client calls, and make consequential decisions yourself. You will not be delegating the core work to a large execution team at the outset.
You will be supported by MarginOS, integrated AI tooling, and the broader Margin Department team. That infrastructure will make you faster and more informed, but the ownership remains yours. You will run the accounts in your portfolio and be accountable for their results.
As your portfolio reaches sufficient scale, you will have the opportunity to hire and develop a Growth Analyst to support day-to-day execution.
What You’ll Do
-
Own Growth Strategy and Planning
-
Build P&L-connected media plans covering channel allocation, budget pacing, funnel structure, product lines, and customer segments.
-
Translate a brand’s financial objectives into clear acquisition, revenue, and contribution-margin targets.
-
Lead strategy across core channels like Meta and Google while also identifying when additional channels belong in the mix.
-
Understand how new and returning customers, order volume, average order value, conversion rate, traffic, CPMs, and product margins interact.
-
Build models that make these relationships understandable and actionable.
-
Evaluate how paid media, organic demand, retail, marketplaces, and other sales channels influence one another.
-
Develop offers and acquisition funnels that can drive growth while preserving healthy unit economics.
-
Make structural account decisions—including campaign architecture, bidding strategy, audience strategy, and budget allocation—and clearly explain the reasoning behind them.
-
Understand the strengths and limitations of multi-touch attribution, media mix modeling, incrementality testing, and in-platform attribution.
-
Adapt the measurement approach to each client’s stage, data, and decision-making needs.
-
Stay Close to Execution
-
Buy media and manage budgets, bids, and campaign structures directly.
-
Monitor performance and respond quickly when results diverge from the plan.
-
Build financial projections and media plans that can withstand scrutiny from a founder or investor.
-
Produce and QA weekly performance reporting, owning its accuracy, clarity, and delivery to the client.
-
Identify risks early and take action before they become larger problems.
-
Build repeatable systems that improve the quality and efficiency of work across the portfolio.
-
Performance Creative Strategy
-
Define core creative angles, messaging frameworks, offers, and content themes to guide performance-focused creative.
-
Use available advertising and customer insights to inform clear recommendations for what to make next.
-
Conduct targeted customer, category, and competitive research to support creative direction.
-
Review creative performance across relevant signals to identify what is working and what to test next.
-
Provide a practical creative strategy foundation that helps clients make more informed creative decisions.
-
Own the Client Relationship
-
Serve as the primary strategic point of contact for each client in your portfolio.
-
Lead recurring calls and participate in periodic in-person visits.
-
Translate complex performance and financial data into clear decisions and recommendations.
-
Build trust through competence, candor, consistency, and sound judgment.
-
Push back when a requested direction is unlikely to serve the client’s business goals.
-
Communicate difficult news directly and arrive with a clear point of view about what should happen next.
-
Who This Is For
You may be a strong fit if:
- You typically have at least 5 years of relevant growth-marketing experience on the brand side, agency side, or both. Demonstrated scope and judgment matter more to us than a precise number of years.
- You have deep, hands-on experience with Meta and Google advertising.
- You understand the complete e-commerce growth model, not only the advertising channel layer.
- You are fluent in contribution margin, CAC, payback period, retention rate, and customer lifetime value.
- You can connect platform decisions to business outcomes.
- You have owned meaningful budgets and made decisions where the answer was not obvious.
- You understand performance creative and can turn data, customer insight, and business context into a useful creative direction.
- You can earn a client’s trust through clarity, candor, and sound judgment.
- You are comfortable doing both strategic and detailed work, sometimes within the same hour.
- You communicate clearly in writing and conversation.
- You take initiative, build systems, and are excited to solve unresolved problems.
- You are comfortable operating with ambiguity and helping create structure where none exists yet.
- You care about the quality of your work and notice the details that compound over time.
- You actively learn, experiment, and revise your views when the evidence changes.
- You are excited by the opportunity to build within a small, ambitious team.
