Director of Engineering

About the Role As the Director of Engineering in Bengaluru, you will lead critical initiatives that enhance developer productivity and drive innovation in the Databricks developer platform, including AI-assisted development. You will own the technical strategy, architecture, and organizational design, while growing leaders and delivering scalable cloud services. You will work closely with engineering, product, field, recruiting, and HR to align teams around long-term goals and customer needs. What You'll Do

• Work closely with leaders across engineering, product management, field engineering, recruiting, and HR to shape strategy and execution.
• Lead initiatives to enhance developer productivity and drive innovation in the developer platform, including AI-assisted tooling.
• Own long-term technical architecture, balance product roadmap with debt, and ensure scalable cloud services.
• Build, grow, and coach high-performance teams; nurture leaders with growth opportunities.
• Evolve organizational structure to align with long-term initiatives and maintain strong communications.
• Manage milestones and ensure delivery against roadmaps in partnership with product leadership.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, and design to drive technical and product decisions.
• Partner with customers and product managers to deeply understand user personas and needs.
• Foster a culture of excellence built on empathy and accountability. What We're Looking For
• 15+ years of industry experience building and supporting large-scale distributed systems.
• Experience building, growing, and managing high-performance teams.
• Ability to attract and hire engineers who meet Databricks hiring principles.
• Experience building and running cloud platforms or demonstrated ability to quickly learn SaaS concepts (technical background and fast learner).
• Experience working cross-functionally with product management and directly with customers; ability to deeply understand product and customer personas.
