Job title: Director of Development
About the Role The Director of Development leads Wayland Baptist University's fundraising program, implements a strategic development plan, and builds relationships with donors, prospects, and campus constituents. Reporting to the Executive Director/Campus Dean, this role coordinates across the Lubbock campus and the Plainview Campus advancement leadership to identify funding opportunities, steward major gifts, and advance the university's mission.
What You'll Do
- Coordinate activities with the Executive Director/Campus Dean.
- Actively manage a portfolio of 75-125 prospects.
- Coordinate events such as the annual golf tournament and Denim and Diamonds gala.
- Attend Zoom meetings with the University’s Advancement Team as directed by the Executive Director.
- Work with Marketing and Communications to develop strategies for marketing, media relations, and recruitment aligned with university goals.
- Establish and implement policies, goals, objectives, and procedures in consultation with leadership.
- Plan, direct, and coordinate activities such as promotions and grant proposals with the Office of Advancement.
- Direct and coordinate the unit’s financial and budget activities to fund operations, maximize investments, and increase efficiency.
- Communicate with external audiences including donors, the public, government, and other stakeholders.
- Identify main client groups and audiences and tailor publicity accordingly.
- Coordinate with the Office of Marketing and Communications for press releases and campus website postings.
- Maintain the university’s corporate image and branding per branding guidelines.
- Manage applicable budgets.
- Develop advertising and promotion for development events with Marketing.
- Build and maintain relationships with local government officials and media.
- Coordinate with Marketing to select products for trade shows.
- Resolve problems in collaboration with the Executive Director/Campus Dean.
- Maintain donor and prospect contacts in the university’s database.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Communications, or related field required; Master’s degree or higher preferred.
- Experience in a university administration setting, preferably in institutional advancement, marketing, or recruiting, with a proven record in major gifts and fundraising management including campaign leadership and institutional communications/marketing.
- Deep commitment to Christian Higher Education and alignment with the purposes and philosophy of higher education as promoted by the Baptist General Convention of Texas and Wayland Baptist University.
- Understanding of educational programs related to churches, businesses, industries, and the military.
- Experience in budgets, management, and supervising staff.
- Two to four years of work-related experience in major gifts areas: annual giving, corporate/foundation relations, prospect management, alumni affairs, media, and communications.
- Working knowledge of strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership strategies, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
- Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access; ability to learn university software and online tools.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills; ability to interpret personnel policies; flexibility to prioritize; willingness to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends; occasional travel; reliability and leadership willingness.
