About the Role The Director of Advising, Sophomore, Junior and Senior is a leadership role within the College of Arts and Sciences and Maxwell advising team. This position will be a professional leader overseeing the Academic and Career advising team for Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors. The role focuses on strategic program design, implementation, and assessment to promote student success and improve 4-year and 6-year graduation rates.

What You'll Do

  • Provide strategy, planning, and management in fundraising, alumni relations, collaboration with communications and media relations staff, expanding external relations, and working with an active advisory board.
  • Serve as a liaison among the advising office, students, parents, faculty, deans, and other offices across campus; collaborate with central Advancement and External Affairs staff.
  • Conceptualize, develop, and implement proactive programming to increase the excellence and effectiveness of academic and career advising and raise upper-level graduation rates.
  • Partner with the directors’ team to create career programming directly delivered by the Office of Student Success.
  • Mediate between constituencies to identify, analyze, and resolve complex issues related to academic, behavioral, or other student concerns.
  • Provide assistance to students in crisis and coordinate with faculty, Student Assistance, and other campus resources to resolve problems.
  • Under the direction of the Assistant Dean for Student Success, manage a proactive, cohesive strategy for the professional academic advising and support team to best serve upper-level CAS|MAX students.
  • Innovate new ways to reach students and improve advising services.
  • Evaluate the success of academic and career programming annually and adjust as needed.
  • Directly supervise two upper-level Assistant Directors of Advising and the front-line advising staff.
  • Retain, develop, and advance the upper-level advising team in their professional practice.

What We're Looking For

  • Masters degree required; some doctoral work preferred; Minimum 5 years in Academic and Career advising.
  • Strong ability to multi-task, innovate, and work independently as well as collaboratively with faculty, administrators, staff, and students.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), and analytical skills.
  • Working familiarity with advising practices, Syracuse University policy and process.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse constituencies, resourceful problem solving, sound and timely decision-making, and a demonstrated passion for helping students.

Nice to Have

  • Some doctoral work preferred.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Pay Range: $85,000 – $95,000 per year (USD).
  • On-campus presence required; remote work arrangements are limited in accordance with University policy.
