About the Role
The Director, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) – Global leads the development and execution of BW Packaging’s EHS strategy across the division. This role ensures regulatory compliance, risk mitigation, and a culture of care at all BW Packaging sites and operations, partnering with Operations, Field Service, and People teams to embed safety into daily work, and leads the US Workers’ Compensation strategy.
What You'll Do
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve the global EHS strategy aligned with business goals and culture expectations.
- Establish and standardize EHS governance models, policies, procedures, and best practices across global sites; ensure consistent application.
- Advise executive leadership on EHS risks, trends, and regulatory impacts.
- Ensure regulatory compliance with OSHA, EPA, EU REACH, EU Machinery Directive, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and local manufacturing safety regulations.
- Conduct global EHS audits, inspections, and risk assessments to verify adherence and identify improvements; monitor emerging requirements.
- Oversee incident investigations and root cause corrective actions (RCCA).
- Partner with BW Corporate safety and represent BW Packaging on corporate safety initiatives.
- Develop and maintain safety programs (LOTO, arc flash protection, safe lifting & rigging, machine safety, fall protection, emergency response).
- Lead deployment of behavior-based safety, near-miss reporting, and safety Gemba activities.
- Maintain centralized repository for safety documentation, ensuring adoption across sites and accountability.
- Drive reductions in workplace injuries and occupational health risks; monitor safety metrics.
- Drive environmental program management including permitting, reporting, and audits; ensure timely and accurate submissions.
- Manage Workers’ Compensation (US) program: end-to-end claims management, return-to-work planning, and cost/risk controls.
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience leading global EHS programs in a manufacturing environment; ability to influence across functions and sites.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, EU REACH, EU Machinery Directive, ISO 14001, ISO 45001; experience with audits and risk assessments.
- Expertise in incident investigations and RCCA; ability to drive corrective actions.
- Experience with Workers’ Compensation programs in the US and coordinating with insurance carriers and legal.
- Excellent collaboration skills with Operations, Field Service, and People teams; strong communication and leadership capabilities.
- Ability to translate regulatory requirements into practical site-level standards and practices.
