About this role

Director of Enterprise Slate Strategy

Description

  • The Director of Enterprise Slate Strategy provides institution-wide leadership for Samford University's Slate ecosystem, including Slate Admissions, Slate Student Success, and Slate Advancement. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Strategy, the position serves as the University's strategic advisor for Slate and develops a coordinated vision, governance model, and multi-year roadmap that supports enrollment, student retention and success, alumni engagement, and philanthropy.

  • The position leads a unified approach to Slate across the University, aligning functional and technical teams while supporting the distinct needs of each area. The role combines Slate expertise with strategic planning, governance, business process improvement, change leadership, and executive communication. Distributed administrators and technical staff may perform routine configuration and support, while this position remains accountable for enterprise priorities, standards, coordination, and outcomes.

  • Job Duties

  • Develop and execute an enterprise Slate strategy and multi-year roadmap aligned with University priorities across admissions, student success, and advancement.

  • Serve as the institutional strategic advisor for Slate, recommending priorities, investments, staffing approaches, and opportunities for expanded use.

  • Establish and lead enterprise Slate governance, including decision rights, project intake and prioritization, data stewardship, security, permissions, configuration standards, testing, documentation, accessibility, and change management.

  • Convene leaders and stakeholders from Enrollment Management, Student Success, Advancement, Technology Services, Institutional Analytics and Effectiveness, Marketing and Communication, academic units, and other areas to align goals and resolve competing priorities.

  • Support business process review and redesign efforts that improve recruitment, enrollment, student engagement, retention, alumni relations, and fundraising while reducing manual work, duplicated systems, fragmented communications, and inefficient handoffs.

  • Provide strategic direction for Slate architecture, environments, integrations, major configurations, analytics, portals, and support models.

  • Partner with data owners and institutional analytics teams to improve data quality, integration, reporting, and measures of platform adoption, operational effectiveness, constituent engagement, and institutional impact.

  • Direct institution-wide communication, training strategy, documentation standards, professional development, and a Slate community of practice that promotes consistent and reusable solutions.

  • Oversee major Slate projects, consultants, resources, risks, milestones, budgets, and outcomes.

  • Remain current on Slate releases, capabilities, community practices, and emerging uses; translate relevant developments into recommendations for University leadership.

  • Demonstrated experience administering, implementing, optimizing, or strategically leading Technolutions Slate or a comparable enterprise CRM platform.

  • Demonstrated success leading complex, cross-functional initiatives involving senior stakeholders, competing priorities, governance, and organizational change.

  • Strong understanding of higher education operations and at least two of the following areas: admissions and enrollment, student success and retention, or advancement and alumni relations.

  • Ability to translate institutional strategy into practical plans and communicate effectively with executive, functional, and technical audiences.

  • Ability to report to work 5 days per week and perform routine office duties, including prolonged computer use, occasional movement between campus locations, and lifting or carrying items weighing up to 10 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a related field.

  • Experience leading multiple Slate products or instances, particularly Slate Admissions, Slate Student Success, and Slate Advancement.

  • Experience with Ellucian Banner or another higher education SIS/ERP; integrations; data governance; institutional analytics; business process redesign; project portfolio management; or vendor management.
