Job title: Director, Computing Operations

About the Role Under direction of the Director, the Director, Institute Computing Operations oversees Delaware Biotechnology Institute’s Windows, Mac OS, UNIX and Linux-based computing infrastructure and other IT systems within the Institute. The position requires a high level of independence and interaction with UD Information Technologies to ensure compliance with University policies on security and responsible use.

What You'll Do

• Administers and manages DBI’s large Linux-based server infrastructure and Linux HPC cluster.
• Administers DBI desktops, laptops, and peripherals.
• Oversees procurement of computers and related equipment.
• Plans, recommends, and implements additions, deletions and major modifications to the supporting infrastructure.
• Plans and manages internal network infrastructure at DBI.
• Coordinates disaster recovery procedures.
• Maintains hardware and systems and applications software for Biotech managed resources.
• Interfaces with hardware/software vendors for maintenance and updates and ensures cost-effective operation.
• Maintains license records and software configuration documentation.
• Tracks operations utilization and identifies proactive capacity and service enhancements.
• Works with Institute partners and stakeholders addressing evolving IT needs, including grant proposal preparation and IT scope of work.
• Serves as main point of contact for IT matters; monitors, analyzes, and evaluates performance; ensures timely support for around-the-clock information transfer, storage and processing per service levels.
• Assists with IT staffing needs and projections.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 6 years of directly related experience. Substitutions: HS diploma/GED with 10 years; Associate’s + 8; Master + 4.
• Management experience preferred.
• Ability to utilize advanced computational and statistical applications and work independently in a highly interdisciplinary environment; maintain close interactions with a diverse group of researchers.
• Experience in a University computing service environment preferred.
• Strong communication.
