About this role

About the Company

America is under sustained cyber attack. Our adversaries infiltrate our networks, steal our IP, and degrade the digital infrastructure that modern life runs on. They’ve learned—correctly—that those attacks rarely produce consequences.

Twenty was founded to change that, by making our adversaries think twice before they attack us. Our vision is American and allied primacy in cyberspace—a future where they cannot contest us, deterrence is assured, and the free world remains secure.

Founded in 2024, Twenty Technologies (www.twenty.io) industrializes offensive cyber operations for the U.S. and its allies. Headquartered in Arlington, Virginia, Twenty has raised $168M from Khosla Ventures, Accel, Caffeinated Capital, Friends & Family Capital, Point72 Ventures, General Catalyst, and In-Q-Tel.

Role Summary

Twenty builds cyber capabilities and intelligence products for the U.S. Government and its allies. Our work supports national security missions across the Department of Defense and the Intelligence Community. As Director, Communications, you’ll lead the federal-focused communications strategy that helps policymakers, defense leaders and the media understand Twenty’s technology and its relevance to national security.

You’ll own the narrative, media relationships and executive communications that build Twenty’s credibility in Washington. Working closely with Government Relations, Product, Sales and Marketing, you’ll connect public communications to policy priorities, prepare leaders for high-stakes engagements and manage reputational issues with accuracy and sound judgment. This is a hands-on communications leadership role: you’ll set the strategy and personally deliver the writing, outreach and preparation behind it.

Who You Are

  • You find the clear, credible story in complex technology without losing the details that make it accurate.

  • You understand Washington’s policy and media environment, and know how timing, audience and substance shape a communications decision.

  • You are a strong writer and editor who can move from a strategic communications plan to a press statement, executive op-ed or interview brief.

  • You bring calm judgment to sensitive issues, know when to escalate and build trust with executives, technical experts and journalists.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and execute a federal-focused public affairs strategy that builds Twenty’s visibility and credibility with policymakers, defense leaders and relevant media.

  • Translate technical capabilities and national security developments into accurate, compelling narratives for federal technology, defense and mainstream outlets.

  • Write and edit press releases, executive op-eds, talking points and thought leadership on topics including AI, cybersecurity and defense procurement.

  • Build and maintain relationships with defense, technology and political journalists; develop story opportunities and lead media outreach.

  • Serve as an official spokesperson for Twenty on approved topics and manage incoming federal media inquiries and interview requests.

  • Partner with Government Relations on integrated advocacy campaigns, aligning media activity and executive messaging with legislative priorities and milestones such as the NDAA cycle.

  • Develop and maintain crisis communications plans for issues involving federal contracts, data security and national security compliance; monitor emerging coverage and political developments, assess reputational implications and coordinate timely responses.

  • Prepare executives and technical experts for media interviews, congressional hearings and industry panels, including briefing materials, message development and practice.

  • Coordinate with Product, Sales and Marketing to keep external messaging accurate and consistent with federal procurement and compliance requirements.

Must Have

  • 5+ years of experience leading public affairs, corporate communications or media relations.

  • Deep familiarity with Washington’s political ecosystem, federal technology policy and defense terminology.

  • Established, referenceable relationships with reporters covering Capitol Hill, the Pentagon and federal IT.

  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, with examples of turning complex technical information into clear, persuasive public narratives.

  • Demonstrated ownership of communications strategy and execution, including executive messaging, media engagement and hands-on content development.

  • Sound judgment when communicating about sensitive topics, with the ability to work effectively with senior leaders and technical experts.

Nice To Have

  • Experience in defense, aerospace or technology.

  • Experience coordinating public affairs campaigns with government relations around legislative or policy priorities.
