Job title: Director, College/Community Band (Adjunct)
About the Role The Monroe County Community College seeks an adjunct faculty member to oversee the College/Community Band, a performance-based mixed ensemble comprised of MCCC students and community members. The Band performs at least four concerts between August and May. The director will teach selected courses, lead and direct performances, schedule rehearsals, select repertoire, maintain the music library, and make budgetary recommendations to the dean. The director works closely with the College/Community Orchestra director and the Agora Chorale director, and together they help identify students for MCCC’s Performing Arts Scholarship awards.
What You'll Do
- Direct and lead the College/Community Band during musical performances
- Schedule rehearsals and select appropriate musical pieces
- Teach MUSIC 154, 155, 254, 255 (College-Community Symphony Band courses)
- Maintain the music library and provide budgetary recommendations to the dean
- Collaborate with the College/Community Orchestra director and the Agora Chorale director on scholarship decisions
- Engage with the Monroe County community to build support for the music program
What We're Looking For
- Master's degree in music with a concentration in musical ensemble conducting
- Evidenced experience or ability to lead and direct musical performances
- Strong organizational and leadership skills, including the ability to inspire and motivate individuals and groups
- High level of creativity and willingness to engage with the Monroe County community
