Job Title: Director, Business Development & Parnerships

Location: Abuja (FCT)

Employment Type: Full-time

The Opportunity

  • The Director, Business Development & Partnerships will lead business development, market expansion, product/service commercialization, and strategic partnership development across Intersect Consortium and its portfolio of businesses.

Key Objective

  • The primary objective of the role is to move Intersect Consortium and its individual businesses from their current commercial position to the next stage of sustainable growth.
  • The Director will be expected to identify commercial opportunities that may already exist within the Consortium but are currently underdeveloped, under-marketed, under-packaged, or under-commercialized.

The role will combine:

  • Business Development + Product Development + Market Expansion + Partnerships + Commercial Strategy + Sales Enablement + Market Intelligence.

Scope of The Role

The Director will work across the Consortium's diverse portfolio, including:

  • Mental health and treatment centres
  • Rehabilitation services
  • Women's mental health services
  • Pharmaceutical services
  • Technology/IT businesses
  • Manufacturing businesses
  • Professional services
  • Other service-based entities within the Consortium.
  • The Director must therefore be comfortable working across different industries, customer segments, purchasing processes and revenue models.

Key Responsibilities

Consortium-Wide Business Development Strategy:

  • Develop and implement a Consortium-wide business development strategy.
  • Establish annual and quarterly business development targets.
  • Translate the Consortium's overall business strategy into measurable commercial initiatives.
  • Develop growth plans for individual entities and business units.
  • Identify priority markets, sectors, customer segments, and geographic opportunities.
  • Establish business development standards and processes across the Consortium.
  • Develop a common pipeline-management framework.
  • Establish reporting structures for business development performance.
  • Coordinate business-development activities across entities to avoid duplication and identify opportunities for cross-selling.
  • Regularly review the commercial performance of each business unit and recommend corrective actions.

Business Growth Diagnostics:

  • The Director will act as an internal growth consultant to the Consortium and its businesses.

This includes:

  • Assessing the current commercial position of each business.
  • Reviewing existing products and services.
  • Identifying underutilized capabilities.
  • Identifying services with low awareness or weak market penetration.
  • Assessing pricing and packaging.
  • Reviewing existing customer segments.
  • Identifying revenue leakage and missed commercial opportunities.
  • Assessing competitors and market positioning.
  • Identifying barriers to sales.
  • Determining whether problems relate to product, pricing, positioning, distribution, awareness, sales capability, or market access.
  • Developing practical growth interventions.

Product & Service Development:

  • A major responsibility of this role will be turning existing expertise and capabilities into sellable products and services.

The Director will:

  • Identify new product and service opportunities.
  • Develop commercially viable service packages.
  • Repackage existing services for new customer segments.
  • Create corporate and institutional service offerings.
  • Develop bundled service solutions across Consortium entities.
  • Identify opportunities for subscription, retainer, contract, or recurring-revenue models.
  • Develop pricing and packaging recommendations.
  • Work with technical, clinical, and operational teams to validate feasibility.
  • Develop product / service propositions and value propositions.
  • Test new offerings with target markets.
  • Develop go-to-market plans.
  • Establish commercial launch plans for new products and services.

Government Sector Business Development:

  • The Director will develop and execute strategies for accessing relevant government markets.

This includes:

  • Identify relevant Federal, State and Local Government opportunities.
  • Map ministries, departments, agencies and government institutions relevant to Consortium services.
  • Identify decision-makers, influencers and procurement stakeholders.
  • Develop government-sector value propositions.
  • Identify relevant tenders, programmes, contracts and partnership opportunities.
  • Develop institutional engagement strategies.
  • Build relationships with relevant government stakeholders.
  • Coordinate preparation for bids, proposals and presentations.
  • Establish a structured government-sector pipeline.
  • Monitor government procurement and programme opportunities.
  • Ensure appropriate ethical, legal and procurement standards are maintained.

Private-Sector Business Development:

  • Develop and lead strategies for penetration of the private sector.
  • Develop corporate account strategies.
  • Identify high-value prospects.
  • Build and manage institutional pipelines.
  • Develop corporate proposals.
  • Establish strategic relationships.
  • Develop employee wellness and mental-health packages where applicable.
  • Identify opportunities for cross-selling Consortium services.
  • Negotiate commercial opportunities in collaboration with management.
  • Develop long-term institutional accounts.

Network & Cross-Selling Across the Consortium:

  • The successful candidate is expected to bring an established professional network that can accelerate market entry and opportunity development.
  • One of the unique opportunities within Intersect is the ability to leverage the Consortium's diverse capabilities.
  • The Director will identify opportunities where one entity can create business for another.

Business Development Team Leadership:

  • The Director will oversee business development personnel across the Consortium.

Responsibilities include:

  • Define roles and responsibilities.

  • Set targets.

  • Develop KPIs.

  • Establish reporting structures.

  • Coach and mentor business development personnel.

  • Conduct pipeline reviews.

  • Identify capability gaps.

  • Recommend recruitment where required.

  • Develop training programmes.

  • Standardize business development practices.

  • Improve proposal and pitching capability.

  • Develop performance-management systems.

  • Build a culture focused on opportunity creation and conversion.

  • Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Economics, Finance, Management, Communications, or a related field.

  • A Masters Degree.

  • 8 - 12+ years of progressive business development, commercial strategy, sales, partnerships, or growth experience.

  • Significant experience managing business development teams.

  • Demonstrated track record of generating new business and revenue.

  • Experience developing new products or services.

  • Experience taking existing products/services into new markets.

  • Strong government and private-sector business-development experience.

  • Strong commercial negotiation skills.

  • Demonstrated experience developing strategic partnerships.

  • Strong understanding of sales pipelines and CRM.

  • Excellent presentation and pitching skills.

  • Strong market-analysis capability.

  • Demonstrated ability to work across multiple business lines or industries.

Highly Desirable:

  • Experience working across a diversified group or conglomerate.
  • Consulting experience.
  • Management consulting experience.
  • Experience in healthcare, pharmaceuticals, technology, manufacturing, or professional services.
